95 years young and proving that cake really does bring people together 🧁💕

A week or so ago I got a message from a lady in America asking if I could make some cupcakes for her mum's 95th birthday here in the UK.

She also needed them delivered. Now, delivery isn't usually something I offer... but when the birthday girl is turning 95, who's going to be the person that says no to that? Certainly not me! 🥹

I was told her favourite cake flavours are Victoria Sponge and Lemon, so I put together a box of:
🍋 Lemon cupcakes filled with lemon curd
🍓 Vanilla cupcakes filled with raspberry jam

All finished with pretty floral buttercream designs.

Honestly, orders like this are the ones that stay with me forever. It wasn't just a box of cupcakes. It was a daughter, thousands of miles away, wanting to make sure her mum felt loved and celebrated on a really special birthday. ✨️

Getting messages like the one in the photos afterwards is one of the best parts of this job (and makes all the washing up worth it 😂).

When people think of cake making, they usually picture the pretty finished cakes.

What they don't see is the endless washing up, the stained aprons and hands, the recipe fails, the emergency ingredient runs, and the fact that I'm currently surviving on iced drinks and a neck fan. 😂

Running a cake business is equal parts creativity, problem-solving, cleaning, admin and occasionally rescuing technology from soapy water.

But despite all the messy bits, I genuinely love what I do and feel incredibly lucky that I get to create cakes for your celebrations.
