🎄❤️ BANGIN’ BAKES IS HEADING TO CLIPSTONE WELFARE’S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON! ❤️🎄

With everything that’s been going on recently, I think this is just what I need! 🥰 Something positive to focus on, something to get my teeth into, and something lovely to look forward to.

Because as much as baking can be hard work (and believe me, I know just how much work goes into these little beauties! 😂), it’s also something I absolutely LOVE doing. ❤️

So, I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and bringing my Bangin’ Bakes to Clipstone Welfare’s Christmas Lights Switch-On on Saturday 28th November! 🎅🏻✨

You can expect some of your established favourites, including my Jammy Wagon Wheel Chunks, Biscoff Millionaire’s Shortbread, Cherry Bakewell Blondies and more! 🤤

But you know me… even when I’m not baking, I’m forever storing ideas, scribbling down recipes and thinking up new things to make! 😂 So, alongside those much-loved favourites, I’ll be bringing some new bakes to the table too! 👀❤️

I’ve got plenty of ideas up my sleeve, and I can’t wait to get experimenting!

🥮 Let’s talk Fat Rascals!

Apparently, these are a traditional Yorkshire bake, but I didn’t discover them until I visited a lovely little market in Wales! 😂

They’re a bit like a cross between a scone and a biscuit, and I’ve only really come across them since at Bettys Tearooms.

Now, I’m tempted to have a go at making them myself, but first I need to consult the experts! 👩🏼‍🍳

Yorkshire folk, I need your input! 👇

❤️ And how do you traditionally serve them? Warm with butter, or are we talking jam and clotted cream?

I had mine just as they came at the market, but I’m thinking a generous helping of butter would have been a winner! 😂🧈

Fat Rascals

This is a recipe I have had on my “to-do” list for a while and as the weather was a bit cooler this week I decided to give it a go.

Fat Rascals are a cross between a scone and a rock bun and are a great afternoon treat. They originate from Yorkshire and are also popular in the North East of England.

In 1983, the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms reinvented the traditional regional bun into the fruit filled fat rascals we know today. Bettys added the signature face using glacé cherry eyes and whole almond teeth. I have added these to mine too!!

They are so good with a cup of tea in the afternoon or great for a picnic or packed lunch. They are so buttery and packed with fruit one is definitely not enough!!!

A chocolate number one cake, filled with chocolate ganache and vanilla buttercream, finished with the cutest little safari jungle theme! 🐘🦒🌿💗

Just a little reminder that I’m still taking some time to rest and get myself back on track. ❤️‍🩹

A little update from me ❤️

I’ve been keeping myself busy through a bit of a tough time, pottering away doing the things I love. 🥰

🍅 I was gifted an abundance of tomatoes, so what better way to use them up than homemade roasted tomato & basil soup, served with homemade bread! 🍞 Still practising my bread-making skills, but hey-ho, practice makes perfect and it tasted delicious! 😂

🧁 I also made a little box of cupcakes for a lovely lady celebrating her wedding vow renewal, replicating the design of their original wedding cake. ❤️

Just taking things one day at a time and keeping busy where I can. Let’s see what next week brings! 💗

🎂✨ “I’d just like a Victoria sponge, please.” ❤️

And there’s me thinking… I can’t just do basic! 😂

I’ve been tinkering away in the background, and pulled out this beauty today... 🍓

Two generous layers of thick, fluffy golden sponge, sandwiched together with a generous helping of buttercream, topped with more beautifully piped buttercream and fresh strawberries. 🤍

Because whilst I absolutely LOVE the simplicity of a classic Victoria sponge, I also love going that extra mile to make something feel a little bit special. 🥰

Nothing too over the top, just generous layers, beautiful buttercream and a few gorgeous finishing touches. Sometimes, the simplest cakes really are the most stunning! ✨

I hope these beauties helped make someone’s birthday celebrations extra special. ❤️

Because honestly, what’s better than having your favourite cake for your birthday? 🎂🍓

RIGHT… I love a challenge 👀😂

Kyle is on the hunt for someone who can bake him a GIANT school cake for an upcoming video… and honestly, I think I might have just found my moment! 😂

I whip up a mean Old School Cake and looking at that monster… I reckon I could give Kyle a run for his money! 🤣

In fact, I’m pretty confident I could bake it AND eat it myself 😂🍰

Tell me you’ve got ADHD without telling me you’ve got ADHD… 😂

I’ve literally just put a post up saying I need to switch off, take a little break and step away from work for a bit…

And then my impulsive little brain goes:

💡 “WAIT… I’VE JUST HAD A REALLY GOOD IDEA.”

Can’t focus on the things I actually NEED to do, but apparently my brain is more than happy to randomly drop a bloody brilliant idea into my head when I’m supposed to be switching off. 🤣

And you know what? I actually think this one could be REALLY good. 👀

So I’m not going to turn it into another job or put any pressure on myself — but while I’m not doing orders, I might have a little play around with the idea and see what I can come up with.

Something to look forward to. Something to work towards.

Because apparently my brain didn’t get the memo about taking a break. 😂🩷

Right, I think it’s time for a little bit of real talk from behind the cake counter. ❤️

Things in my personal life are incredibly stressful and overwhelming at the moment, and if I’m being completely honest, I’m struggling to switch off from it all.

I’ve tried. I’ve really tried.

I’ve thrown myself into the kitchen, kept myself busy, baked, created and tried to use work as a distraction because, usually, keeping busy is exactly what I need.

But the problem with my current situation is that there is so much unpredictability, and it’s knocked me for six. I’m finding it harder and harder to focus, and I think I need to stop fighting it and admit that I need a little break.

So, for now, I’m going to step back from baking and give myself some time to breathe, get my head straight and deal with what I need to deal with.

This isn’t me giving up on Life’s Better With Cake. ❤️ It’s just me recognising that sometimes you have to put the brakes on, even when you desperately want to keep going.

I’m incredibly grateful for every single person who supports my little business, orders my bakes, likes, comments, shares and checks in. You genuinely have no idea how much it means to me.

I’ll be back in the kitchen when I’m ready. And when I am, there’ll be plenty of banging bakes waiting for you. 🩷

For now, I just need to look after me and my family.
