I'm REALLY excited for this! 😍

I'm working on more accessible workshops for all families in the forest and surrounding areas!

Monies tight for so many and luxury cake classes are at the bottom of the list for an extra activity.

And I fully get it, I can't afford to do expensive stuff with mine, we have a lot of mouths to feed and with the increase in everything, it's getting harder.

So I've been working on this ✨ adorable ✨ workshop.

It's very limited spaces but it will be 90 minutes of absolute insane value and entertainment for children ages 5-12

I'll announce it all soon as I finish up the poster and clean away my tools 😁

When we think of "superfoods," things like kale, acai, or chia seeds usually get the spotlight. But there is a quiet, dirt-covered champion that has been keeping humanity fueled for centuries without asking for any of the hype: the potato.

Whether you’re trying to slash your grocery bill, test out your green thumb, or pack more nutrients onto your plate, the humble spud is the ultimate answer. Here’s why it deserves a permanent crown in your kitchen and garden:

🌱 1. They are ridiculously easy to grow
You don’t need an expansive farm. Potatoes thrive in buckets, fabric grow bags, or even an old laundry basket. Got a potato in your pantry that started sprouting those weird little "eyes"? Don't throw it out! Cut it into chunks, bury them in loose soil, and keep them watered. One single seed potato can yield up to 4kg of fresh food in about 10-12 weeks!

πŸ’ͺ 2. Unbeatable nutrition (Eat the skins!)
Potatoes often get a bad rap because of carbs, but complex carbs are exactly what our bodies crave for clean, sustained energy.
More Potassium than a banana: Crucial for healthy blood pressure and muscle function.
Vitamin C boost: One medium potato provides nearly 30% of your daily needs.
The fiber weapon: Leave the skins on! That's where a huge chunk of the fiber, iron, and B-vitamins live.

πŸ’° 3. High-volume, dirt-cheap meals
If you’re trying to stretch a budget, potatoes are your best friend because they rank exceptionally high on the fullness index. You can easily turn a cheap bag into an absolute feast:

Loaded Baked Potato Bar: Bake a few large Russets and clear out your fridge toppings (leftover chili, cheese, Bolognese or baked beans).

Crispy Smashed Potatoes: Boil small potatoes, smash them flat on a baking sheet with a glass, drizzle with oil/salt, and roast at 200Β°c until intensely crispy.

Creamy Potato Soup: Boil chopped potatoes with onions, garlic, and broth, then blend. It becomes incredibly rich and luxurious without needing expensive heavy cream.

The potato is a symbol of resilience, frugality, and comfort. Next time you pass that cheap bag at the grocery store, grab it. It's not just a side dish; it's a culinary blank canvas.

Did you know the best things for children are free?

To give your children the best of life does not require huge amounts of money.

Don't get me wrong, once in a lifetime trips are amazing but it doesn't mean you are failing if you can't do them.

Children thrive in play, they thrive in positive reinforcement and creativity.

Now these things will vary from child to child.

Some may build amazing dens out in the forest, whilst others can build a computer program that many could enjoy.

Some may be able to paint amazing pictures of beautiful scenery whilst others may be able to sculpt a mythical creature from clay.

Some may be able to write a powerful piece of impactful writing whilst others may be able to create poems that tickle their readers.

But no matter what they thrive in, it can be explored for next to nothing.

Taking them outside in the fresh air, water play, creating art with leaves, stories inspired by the forest and just generally spending time with them is where they thrive.

I think with modern technology, the internet and the fake lives we see, we forget how little we actually need.

This keeps popping up on my feed.

Initially it makes me feel upset because my boy was this child in the wrong environment.
It sparks a reaction out of me, almost defensive because it's like he is being demonized all over again but in a second flash, I absolutely agree.

His education is not more important than any other child's.

They all deserve the right to learn but the problem is that one child is disruptive because the environment isn't one they can thrive in.

One size does not fit all, we see it daily and it begs the question, what needs to change?

Personally there does need to be more provisions in place for children who cannot cope in classrooms that are loud and disruptive.

I cannot tell you how many times I walked into a room to get my son who couldn't cope and there were children on tables, shouting and well, just being children but for him, it meant he was in a constant state of discomfort. It hurts his ears, he could not focus and this prompted an unwanted reaction.

So no it is not that one child's fault. I don't even believe it is the teachers fault but I do think that the whole system needs a serious overhaul.

So it begs the question, what needs to be done?

More rooms to help regulate children who cannot sit still in a class of many children?More alternative provision to encourage different ways of learning? Getting children involved in outside learning? More training for teachers and education boards for children with neurodiversity? Push for essential skills?

I think all of these things will certainly start a push in the right direction.

Let's face it, the system is failing many kids and their families daily and it's not their fault.

I'll say it again, one size does not fit all and I truly believe that approaching these children at where they need to be met will change their whole life trajectory.

You see so many beautiful white, aesthetically pleasing kitchens on food pages.

Not mine πŸ™„

Bit of reality behind it all, we're currently sorting all equipment from storage and finding it a new place to live at home..which means my kitchen is currently the holding pen 🀦

It makes me feel uneasy every time I look at it πŸ˜…

The mighty carrot πŸ₯•

Even wonky they serve a great purpose!!

Key Health Benefits

Eye Health & Vision: Carrots are packed with beta-carotene, an antioxidant that your body converts into Vitamin A. This vitamin is crucial for protecting the surface of the eye (the cornea) and helping you see in low-light conditions.

Immune System Support: The combination of Vitamin A and Vitamin C found in carrots helps stimulate white blood cell production, keeping your body's natural defense system sharp.

Digestive & Blood Sugar Balance: A single medium carrot provides around 2 grams of dietary fiber. This supports a healthy gut microbiome, aids regular digestion, and helps prevent sharp spikes in blood sugar levels by slowing down sugar absorption.

Heart Health: Carrots contain potassium, which helps relax blood vessels and manage healthy blood pressure levels, reducing overall cardiovascular strain.

Best way to eat them?

Every way, eaten raw, roasted, in soups, salads and any way you can think possible!

Pro Tip: To get the absolute most out of your carrots, try cooking them lightly and pairing them with a healthy fat (like olive oil or butter). Beta-carotene is fat-soluble, meaning your body absorbs significantly more of it when it's consumed with a little bit of fat!
