🎶❤️ A Special Musical Visit at Astley View! ❤️🎶

We were recently delighted to welcome the wonderful Happy Voices Choir to Astley View Care Home for a truly heartwarming musical afternoon! 🎤🎵

Our residents were treated to a fantastic selection of songs from the musicals, including much-loved favourites from Oliver!, Les Misérables and My Fair Lady, alongside an amazing rendition of Hallelujah. 🌟

What made this visit even more special was that one of our lovely residents was once a member of the choir herself! 🥰 In a beautiful moment, she had the opportunity to rejoin her fellow singers and sing along with them for several songs. Seeing her reconnect with something so meaningful to her was incredibly touching and brought smiles all around. ❤️

The choir sang their hearts out, and our residents thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this wonderful performance. It’s amazing how music can bring back precious memories, rekindle old friendships and create new moments to treasure. 🎶✨

A huge thank you to The Happy Voices Choir for sharing your time and incredible talent with us. You certainly brought plenty of joy, smiles and a little musical magic to Astley View! 💕

🥣🍂 Soup-er chefs at Astley View! 🍂🥣

Our residents have been busy in the kitchen making homemade pumpkin soup and cucumber soup! 🧑‍🍳 After all that chopping, peeling and stirring, we tucked into our delicious creations with a lovely warm, crusty bread roll. 🥖😋

Nothing beats good food, great company and a little teamwork! ❤️

💙✨ WALK THE LIGHTS FOR DEMENTIA UK! ✨💛

We’re proud to support this fantastic fundraising effort, and we’d love our Astley View Care Home family to get behind it! 💙

On Saturday 28th November at 6:30pm, Alan and some of the Astley team will be taking on the Blackpool Walk the Lights, walking approximately 4.5 miles from South Shore to North Shore to raise vital funds and awareness for Dementia UK. 💜

Dementia affects so many people and families, and every donation, no matter how big or small, can help support the incredible work Dementia UK does for those living with dementia and the people who care for them.

💪🎶 Mandy Motivator at Astley View Care Home! 🎶💪

Our Mandy Motivator sessions are always a HUGE hit with our residents, and it’s easy to see why! 🥰 From armchair exercises to moving along to music, clapping, stretching and having a good old singalong, there’s always plenty of smiles, laughter and positive energy in the room! ❤️

These fun, gentle exercise sessions are about so much more than keeping active. They offer so many wonderful benefits for our residents, including:

✨ Improving mobility and flexibility – helping residents maintain movement in their arms, legs and joints.

💪 Building strength and coordination – supporting everyday activities and helping residents maintain their independence.

❤️ Supporting heart health and circulation – gentle movement helps get the blood flowing.

⚖️ Improving balance and posture – helping residents maintain stability and body awareness.

🧠 Boosting cognitive function – following instructions, remembering movements and responding to music all help keep minds active.

😊 Enhancing mood and wellbeing – exercise releases feel-good endorphins and can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

🤝 Encouraging social interaction – bringing everyone together, creating friendships and reducing feelings of loneliness.

🎵 Stimulating memories – familiar music and rhythms can spark reminiscence, encourage participation and bring back happy memories.

🙌 Promoting confidence and achievement – every movement counts, and seeing residents join in at their own pace is something to celebrate!

🌟 Creating fun, meaningful moments – because staying active should be enjoyable, inclusive and something everyone can look forward to!

Our residents can take part from the comfort of their armchairs, working at their own pace and within their individual abilities. There’s no pressure to get every movement perfect — it’s all about having a go, enjoying ourselves and making every moment count! 🪑💃🕺

🌍 Black History Month – Celebrating African Culture 🌍

This week at Astley View, we continued our Black History Month celebrations with a creative collage activity inspired by traditional African headdresses.

As we crafted, we took the opportunity to learn more about African culture, traditions and everyday life. We were especially privileged to hear from one of our lovely carers, who shared stories from her own heritage and experiences growing up in Africa. ❤️

She told our residents about her family, life on the farm and the foods they prepared, bringing these memories to life by showing us videos of how different foods were grown, prepared and made.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our residents to learn directly from someone sharing her own lived experiences, ask questions, reminisce and enjoy conversations together.

Activities like this are so much more than crafts — they create opportunities for connection, curiosity, cultural understanding and meaningful conversations, while celebrating the stories and experiences that make each of us unique. 🌍❤️

A big thank you to our lovely carer for sharing such a personal and special part of her heritage with us.

🎶 Motown Reminiscence – Music, Memories & Connection 🎶

This week, as part of our Black History Month activities, we took a musical journey back in time with a Motown-themed reminiscence session in our Main Café.

We started with a fun Motown quiz, testing our knowledge of some of the famous artists, songs and groups that made Motown so special. We also explored a little of the history behind Motown Records and its founder, Berry Gordy, and the important contribution Motown made to Black music and popular culture.

Then came the music! 🎵 We listened to some of the great Motown artists, including The Jackson 5, Diana Ross and The Supremes, while sharing memories of music from our residents' younger years.

There was plenty of head bopping, foot tapping and smiles, along with some wonderful stories about dance halls, nights out, friends and loved ones.

It was lovely to see how familiar music encouraged conversation, brought back memories and gave our residents the opportunity to share their own stories and experiences with one another.

Activities like this support reminiscence, communication, social connection and meaningful engagement, while helping us learn more about the people and memories that make each of our residents unique.

Because sometimes, a familiar song isn't just a song…
it's a memory waiting to be remembered. ❤️🎶

GO On Tour brought the house to life yesterday with a full‑blown variety show that had something for everyone — singers belting out classics, comedians cracking jokes that set off ripple‑laughs across the room, and costumes so bold they practically danced on their own.

Residents didn’t stay seated for long; the music had them up swaying, clapping, and joining in with the performers like they were part of the cast. It was loud, joyful, and wonderfully chaotic in the best way, the kind of afternoon where you look around and realise the whole home is smiling at once.

🌟 Getting to know the person behind the resident 🌟

At Astley View, we know that every resident has a lifetime of stories, experiences, achievements and memories behind them — and we wanted to take some time to celebrate exactly that. ❤️

As part of our reminiscing activity, we asked our residents to tell us about “what they used to be” — the jobs they had, the things they loved doing and the roles they played throughout their lives.

Seeing some of our residents proudly holding their signs brought back some wonderful memories and gave our team the opportunity to learn even more about the fascinating lives they lived before joining our Astley View family.

Reminiscence is so much more than simply remembering the past. It helps us understand who our residents are, what has shaped them and what matters to them today. 🥰

Because behind every resident is a person with a story — and we feel incredibly privileged to hear it. 💕✨

🇹🇭✨ THAI NIGHT AT ASTLEY VIEW! ✨🇹🇭

What a fantastic evening we had celebrating all things Thai! 🌺🥢

Our residents, families and team enjoyed a wonderful evening filled with delicious Thai food, beautiful decorations, music and plenty of smiles. ❤️

It was lovely to see everyone coming together, enjoying the atmosphere and making some special memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Thai Night so special — from the food and decorations to everyone who joined us and made the evening such a success. 🇹🇭💛
