Hello folks,
This is going to be a strange one but exciting. You might remember that during the Whipped & Baked time, we did the Suspended Coffee scheme and also the community kitchen idea supported by donations from Wayside Organics and also Infinity Foods.
Since then, I’ve moved and started going back to university and have had a marvellous time paying loads of money just for the privilege to learn online. However, I did apply for Santander’s University Enterprise grant for a community kitchen project idea a while back and I have just heard that a grant has been granted for the idea.
This is all in its infancy and the idea is around using surplus/waste (near date) fresh food produce and turning them into good quality, nutritious meals which are frozen and then handed over to local community groups who know of families in acute crisis. The plan is not to sustain the families with continuous supply of food but to support them for a duration with prepared meals until more long term support and help could be arranged. The grant does come with conditions which I am content to comply with. It is the goal that eventually this project would expand to provide training and also eventually pave way to a sustainable community cafe.
If any of you would like to be kept up to date with this project or if you have leads that I can pursue, please do give the page a follow. It’s fairly empty at the moment but I’m trying to do things systematically (something that I am not naturally endowed with).
