Deer Park Archers

Deer Park Archers What really stands out about the club is the fact that it is driving the county and associated clubs forward.

Deer Park Archers is a family orientated Club that was set up in 1996 to run have-a-go archery sessions for Guides and Brownies at the Gloucestershire Guide Activity Centre National Sports Club of the Year Award

On Tuesday night, we won the coveted Sports Club of the Year Award at the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s national awards ceremony. Awarded by the Alliance to sports clubs which have made

an outstanding contribution to their community, our representatives received a trophy and a £5,000 cheque from cricketing legend and Strictly Come Dancing star Mark Ramprakash.Tim Lamb, chief executive of the Alliance said:“The Sports Club of the Year Award is something that we have hosted for many years to congratulate and celebrate our community sports clubs. The nominees and winners just keep getting better and better, and it is inspiring to see, in these straitened economic times, clubs run by volunteers going from strength to strength. We hear a lot about the Big Society, you need to look no further that Deer Park Archers to see the very definition of it.

“As Archery GB put it, if there was a club on which to base the perfect club template on, then Deer Park Archers is that club. It could rest on its laurels but instead it is sharing its experiences and promoting best practice to enable other clubs to progress.”

This recognition is as a result of a great team effort with our partners, Active Gloucestershire, Girlguiding Gloucestershire, Archery GB, Wales Archery. Gloucestershire Schools, Gloucestershire Archery Society, the Green Dragon and our own members and volunteers! The night was made even more special as we were joined by Lynne Evans MBE & GWAS Chairman, Archery GB Chief Executive David Sherratt and Archery GB Chairman Dave Harrison, we thank them for their support.

We are honoured to be recognised as the February winner of ParalympicsGB’s Every Body Moves Programme. This award reflects the dedication of our members and our ongoing commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and supporting the wider adaptive‑sport community, as part of our overall diverse membership.
As a club we encourage people of all abilities to participate in what is an inclusive, fulfilling and fun sport. We are committed to supporting the growth of adaptive sport nationally through our work in inclusive tournaments, collaboration with partner clubs, and contributions to adaptive equipment development.
Gloucestershire has many excellent archery clubs all keen to promote the sport and welcome people to try a sport that they may have viewed as presenting barriers or constraints because of their individual circumstances.
If people wish to explore whether archery is a pastime that would suit them, we encourage them to look out for the ‘Have a Go’ taster sessions held by clubs near them.
We are grateful for the recognition and for the enthusiasm surrounding our sport.
