A little reminder to our lovely Mother Goose families! 💚

We kindly ask all parents and carers to review the contents of their child’s lunchbox and ensure lunches support healthy, balanced choices. 🥪🥕

🦉 Owls
🧼 washing our hands! 🦠
Today in Owls Room, the children became little scientists as they explored the importance of washing their hands and keeping germs away!
The children gathered together to take part in a fun science experiment using water, pepper and washing-up liquid. We spoke about how the pepper represented tiny germs that we cannot always see. The children were fascinated as they watched what happened when soap was added to the water and saw the "germs" move away.
We also read stories about hygiene and growing independence, discussing why it is important to wash our hands throughout the day. The children talked about when they wash their hands, including before meals, after using the toilet and after messy play.

The intent of this activity was to help the children develop an understanding of personal hygiene and how we can keep ourselves healthy. Through the experiment, the children were encouraged to make observations, ask questions and begin to understand simple scientific concepts.
We also focused on promoting independence and self-care skills by discussing the handwashing routine and why it is important.

The ladies implemented this by setting up the science investigation using a tray of water, pepper and washing-up liquid, alongside books to support the children's learning. The children were encouraged to make predictions about what might happen during the experiment and to share their ideas with their friends.
The adults introduced new vocabulary such as "germs", "clean", "soap" and "hygiene", while encouraging the children to observe the changes and discuss what they noticed.
The children were also given opportunities to practise their handwashing skills independently, following the steps to make sure their hands were nice and clean.

The impact of this is that children showed great curiosity and engagement throughout the activity. They enjoyed exploring the experiment and were excited to discover how soap helps remove germs.
The activity supported the children's communication and language skills as they shared ideas and observations with one another. It also helped to develop their understanding of healthy lifestyles and personal care routines.
The children demonstrated growing confidence in talking about why handwashing is important and were eager to put their learning into practice throughout the day.

Penguins 🐧

Let’s talk about the weather!🌈🌥️🍂

Today in Penguins we have been exploring what different weathers look like. The ladies eat up some paint and resources so we could make a picture of what we have seen outside before or whether it was rainy, windy or sunny today. The ladies talked to the children about all the different weather discs that were out and if the children had seen that in the sky before. Child RH mentioned they had seen a rainbow in the sky before and was talking about all the different colours.🌈🌥️🍂

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to talk to their friends and the ladies about what they have or had seen in the sky before and what different weather can feel like when they are out there. The ladies spoke to the children that when it’s windy we will feel colder then we would when the suns out and explained why which also led some of the children to talk about the different seasons, about the leaves on the floor and when it’s snowing so it made the children to think outside of the weather they have just seen today. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having different coloured paints out and the weather discs to help the children think about what they might of seen in the sky in the past. The IMPACT of this activity was so children to develop hand and eye coordination from the paintbrush onto the paper and their fine motor skills, holding the paintbrush, dipping it in the paint and pointing to the discs on the table. This activity also really helped the children with there colours, saying which ones they could see and knowing if they didn’t know a colour they could ask the ladies, along with this their social skills where also impacted as the children spoke to one another about what they could see and what they liked most, if it was the rain, sun or thunder!🌈🌥️🍂

Overall the children had an amazing day learning about the weather and trying to paint what they could see and learning new colours!

Ducklings🐥

All things fine motor skills…🧩🔗🤝

Today in Ducklings, we have spent the morning exploring all things fine motor skills using a range of resources such as jigsaws, curtain rings and the mug tree and sensory toys.🧩🔗🤝

Intent🧩
Our intention was to support the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and early problem-solving. These experiences encouraged the children to use their fingers and hands with increasing control, explore different textures and shapes, develop concentration and begin to understand how objects fit, connect and move.🧩

Implementation🔗
We provided a variety of age-appropriate, hands-on resources, allowing the children to explore at their own pace and follow their individual interests.
🧩 Jigsaws- Encouraged children to grasp, turn and position pieces, developing visual perception, spatial awareness and early problem-solving skills.
⭕ Curtain rings and a mug tree- Encouraged children to grasp, release and carefully position rings over the upright posts, supporting hand-eye coordination, precision and an understanding of cause and effect.
🌈 Fiddly sensory toys- Offered opportunities to squeeze, twist, push, pull and manipulate different features, strengthening little fingers while stimulating curiosity and sensory exploration.
Throughout the activities, the ladies offered encouragement, modelled actions where appropriate and supported children to develop their skills independently, celebrating every attempt and achievement.🔗

Impact🤝
Through these playful experiences, the children had opportunities to strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, refine their movements and develop greater control and coordination. They practised perseverance, concentration and problem-solving while building confidence as they explored and achieved things for themselves.🤝

📢 IMPORTANT PARENT NOTICE – ILLNESS UPDATE

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to make you aware that we currently have cases of sickness and diarrhoea, as well as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, circulating within the nursery.

We understand that little ones can pick up bugs, and we appreciate your support in helping us protect the health and wellbeing of all our children, families and staff. 💛

Please can we remind everyone of our nursery exclusion policies:

🤒 Sickness and Diarrhoea

Children must remain at home until they have been free from both vomiting and diarrhoea for a full 48 hours after their last episode.

🖐️ Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

In line with our nursery policy, children must remain off nursery for 7–10 days, until healed, before returning.

We kindly ask all parents and carers to follow these guidelines to help minimise the spread of infection and keep our nursery community as healthy as possible.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and continued support. Working together helps us keep our little ones safe, happy and healthy. ❤️

🦉 Owls

🎶Owls Band🥁

Today, in Owls Room, the children have enjoyed exploring musical instruments. They have all explored lots of different instruments, including the trumpet, drums, bells and we even looked at the piano! We sat together to choose and sing songs of our choice, using the song tiles and we gave a beat to the songs we were singing. We worked together as a team to make a variety of sounds with the instruments, the children spoke about turn taking, sharing the instruments between them! We all joined in with lots of different songs, singing and doing the actions to them all!

The intent of this activity was to increase the children’s confidence with reciting songs and rhymes. The children focused on songs they already knew, joining in with the words as much as they could. We also aimed to promote turn taking and kindness with our friends, allowing the children to problem solve independently, telling each other which instruments they wanted to play with and using phrases such as “you go first, I go next”.

The ladies implemented this activity by setting up all of the instruments in the middle of the room, along with the song tiles. Whilst these are readily available in the room, moving the instruments to the middle of the room allowed for the children to show a larger interest in them than usual. The ladies encouraged the children to explore all of the instruments, reminding the children to share them out fairly and take turns. The ladies also sat with the children whilst they were singing songs, helping them with the words when needed and singing along, showing them all the actions. The children even kept the ladies right sometimes!

The impact of this activity was that the children felt confident asking their friends for turns, sharing toys and working as a team. This positively influenced their communication and language, as well as their personal, social and emotional development. The children also focused on reciting familiar rhymes and even learning some different ones!

Ducklings🐥

Happy 2nd Birthday AB!🎀✨🧁

Today we have been celebrating Child AB’s 2nd birthday, using the dressing up to encourage the children to be who they want to be.🎀✨🧁

Intent🎀
To celebrate AB’s 2nd birthday by following her interests and providing a fun, child-led dressing-up activity. The aim was to encourage AB and her peers to explore their own identities, express themselves freely, make choices and develop confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.🎀

Implementation✨
The children were invited to explore a variety of dressing-up items, choosing what they wanted to wear and how they wanted to express themselves. We followed the children’s lead, allowing them the freedom to explore at their own pace, make their own choices and enjoy the experience in a way that suited their individual interests and developmental stages.✨

Impact🧁
The activity supported the children’s developing sense of identity, independence and self-confidence. By allowing them to make their own choices, we encouraged them to express their personalities and understand that everyone is unique and special. The experience also supported their communication, decision-making and social development as they explored alongside their peers.🧁

Penguin’s 🐧

Our Emotion’s! 😊☹️😡🤧😬😓

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring emotions and facial expressions leading on from the children’s interest in emotions and the emotion spoons. So we decided we would get all of our emotional resources out and we would talk about our emotions, what they may look like, how they make you feel and how we can deal with them in positive ways too. So we started off by exploring the emotion spoons and stones and trying to copy and recreate the faces they were making to, the children did a great job and tried hard to copy all the different faces. We later went on to look in the books at different ways to deal with our emotions and different techniques we could use such as blowing out the candles giving us time to calm down, ways to relax. The children then went on to get creative and make marks, some even drawing their faces too. This was a great opportunity for the children to learn about all their different emotions.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to learn about their emotions and allow them to find ways to express themselves. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having a wide range of resources around for the children to explore their emotions alongside having the mirror for the children to look at their reflection through too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to learn about their emotions, ways to learn about them and all the different facial expressions too.

All in all we have had a great day learning about our emotions and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Penguin’s 🐧

Sort natural items with us! 🍂

Today in Penguin’s we have been using the bamboo tweezers to transport the natural items around and sort them in different ways also using the wooden cart wheel to. This activity was following on from the children’s interest in loose parts and making groups too. The ladies had a wide range of resources for the children to use when sorting too. The children took their time using their hand and eye coordination to lift and transport the items around, throughout we spoke about the groups we had created using which items and even counted up the items too helping us to develop our counting skills too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to get creative and transport items developing their schematic play too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by have tweezers and natural resources available to us. The IMPACT of this activity was the children were able to develop their fine motor and schema’s too.

All in all we have had a fabulous day transporting the natural loose parts around, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰
