Penguins 🐧
Playdough Cafe 🧁🥣
What can you make today? What colours can we find?🧁🥖🍰🥣
Today we have been making cakes with PlayDough! As we have had many birthdays in our room recently, the children have tried lots of cake so we thought we would take the opportunity to make some ourselves! As we looked at the PlayDough and different tools we had available, we talked about what we could make, what tools we might want to use for our “cakes”, what colours we could find and so much more. We also enjoyed exploring our motor skills, moulding the playdough to make different shapes. When we looked at the table, the children began choosing how they wanted to make their own playdough cakes, choosing if they wanted sprinkles on top, what colour cake cases they wanted to use, and more. The children particularly loved making kneading the playdough and pretending to bake the cakes in the oven! We also enjoyed making cakes of different sizes, to compare these and count how many we could make, we looked at the recipe book as a reference for what we could make. We used these observations to discuss this activity even further, even singing “5 Currant Buns” and counting the buns we were making to fit the song, handing them out to different children as the song went along. Exploring the PlayDough, sprinkles and loose parts allowed us to develop our physical skills especially our motor skills, by using the PlayDough and pouring sprinkles, as well as allowing us to transport loose parts and communicate preferences too.
The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop creativity, making their own cakes, whilst also developing their motor skills and allowing them to transport different objects. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by setting up Penguins cafe, providing the children with PlayDough, sprinkles, cake cases and different tins and chopping boards. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to work on communication and language, expressing preferences, and identifying colours, whilst also developing their fine motor skills too.
All in all we have had lots of fun exploring our Penguins Cafe and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰
Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:
🧁Physical development🧁
🥣Personal, social and emotional development🥣
🧁Communication and language🧁
🥣Understanding the world🥣
🧁Literacy🧁
🥣Mathematics🥣

AT HOME 🏡 you could play with PlayDough, or even practise some baking with your child, allowing you to enhance this experience and develop your understanding further.
Well done Penguins 🐧
