Playdough Cafe 🧁🥣

What can you make today? What colours can we find?🧁🥖🍰🥣

Today we have been making cakes with PlayDough! As we have had many birthdays in our room recently, the children have tried lots of cake so we thought we would take the opportunity to make some ourselves! As we looked at the PlayDough and different tools we had available, we talked about what we could make, what tools we might want to use for our “cakes”, what colours we could find and so much more. We also enjoyed exploring our motor skills, moulding the playdough to make different shapes. When we looked at the table, the children began choosing how they wanted to make their own playdough cakes, choosing if they wanted sprinkles on top, what colour cake cases they wanted to use, and more. The children particularly loved making kneading the playdough and pretending to bake the cakes in the oven! We also enjoyed making cakes of different sizes, to compare these and count how many we could make, we looked at the recipe book as a reference for what we could make. We used these observations to discuss this activity even further, even singing “5 Currant Buns” and counting the buns we were making to fit the song, handing them out to different children as the song went along. Exploring the PlayDough, sprinkles and loose parts allowed us to develop our physical skills especially our motor skills, by using the PlayDough and pouring sprinkles, as well as allowing us to transport loose parts and communicate preferences too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop creativity, making their own cakes, whilst also developing their motor skills and allowing them to transport different objects. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by setting up Penguins cafe, providing the children with PlayDough, sprinkles, cake cases and different tins and chopping boards. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to work on communication and language, expressing preferences, and identifying colours, whilst also developing their fine motor skills too.

All in all we have had lots of fun exploring our Penguins Cafe and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

🧁Physical development🧁

🥣Personal, social and emotional development🥣

🧁Communication and language🧁

🥣Understanding the world🥣

🧁Literacy🧁

🥣Mathematics🥣

Dinosaur Salon

Today was all about our dinosaur salon. The INTENT came from all the interests of the children following on from our hairdressing.

The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by getting out all the different resources such as different dinosaurs 🦕, building blocks, crate, brushes, hairspray, shampoo. Țhe children soon got to work.Sarah asked the children how you would build a hair station. SC soon got to work by placing different size building blocks down to create her hair station, she then place the dinosaurs into it so they could get their hair done. PD and SC worked well together to get the hair station complete, they later brushed the dinosaurs hair. KG designed a till so she could be the checkout operator when the dinosaurs wanted to pay. CC used the crate as a chair so that when people came to the dinosaur hair salon they had somewhere to sit and wait. NC was building another work station which was smaller, While during this activity the other children were doing their own hair.

The IMPACT was that the children were able to use their skills and imagination to create different hair stations. SC counted out how many bricks she used. She managed to get to 10 with Cheryl’s help.

At home you could use cardboard and other objects to create different stations. Such as a fire station, police station, hospital etc.

The areas of learning during this activity are :

Personal Social And Emotional Development
Communication And Language

Jungle Train 🚂🦁

Can you make your own track? What animals can we find?🦁🦓🐘🚂

Today we have been exploring a train through the jungle. As we looked at the jungle animals and their habitat we spoke about what sounds the animals might make, where they might live, if anyone has seen these animals and so much more. We also enjoyed exploring mark making in the sand, drawing different shapes and pictures. When we looked at the animals the children began identifying them, and speaking about, the sounds they make, where they live, their colours and more. The children particularly loved making lion noises and stomping like elephants! We also enjoyed sending cars down the ramps and around the track, seeing how far they would go and how fast we could push them. We used these observations to discuss the jungle animals we could find further, even singing “Sleeping Lions” and changing the song to fit in other animals, doing the actions or sounds for each animal. Exploring the animals, trains and sand allowed us to develop our physical skills especially our fine motor skills as well as allowing us to communicate and understand the world too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop creativity, making their own train tracks, whilst also developing their understanding of the world, talking about where different animals live and our own trips to see animals, at the zoo, etc. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by setting up lots of animals, sand and a big train track running between them and allowing the children to explore the tracks they could make, identify a number of animals and talk about where the animals might live and what sounds they make. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to learn about the world and our environment whilst also developing their fine motor skills too.

All in all we have had lots of fun exploring our jungle train and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

Gruffalo Tea Party🐻🫖🌿

Today in Ducklings we have been exploring the gruffalo and his friends at a tea party. The interest of this activity came Child IS and her recent interest in the different characters from the book.🐻🫖🌿

INTENT🐻
The children explored an imaginative play activity inspired by The Gruffalo story. Our aim was to encourage communication and language development, promote curiosity through exploration, and support the children in developing respect and care for real-life objects.

IMPLEMENTATION🫖
The children were invited to a special tea party with the Gruffalo and his woodland friends. Using real china tea cups and plates, the children explored the different textures and sounds of the items while engaging in role play. The ladies used language from the story, and encouraged the children to pour, serve and interact with the characters and each other during the tea party.

IMPACT🌿
The children showed great interest and concentration throughout the activity. They carefully handled the china, demonstrating increasing awareness of how to use and care for real objects. The children confidently engaged in imaginative play, serving tea to their friends and favourite Gruffalo characters.

Garden Planting.

Today was all about planting. The INTENT came from the interests of PD,HDJ,AT.

The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by getting out all the different resources such as soil, flower seeds, flowers, watering can, cups and relevant books so that the children could look at these to find out information on flowers. Cheryl asked the children how you would plant flowers. ÈS said with a seed and soil. Cheryl explained all about how to plant the seeds. SS told Cheryl that they were sunflower seeds and that they grow tall. The children soon got to work, each child used their fine motor skills to place a seed into the cup followed by compost, they counted out how many scoops such as 1,2,3. Once they did this Cheryl asked what do you need to do to help the plant grow. SC add water, each child poured a little water onto their plant.

During the activity Sarah H put the iPad on and showed a video of how the sunflowers were planted and how they will grow, she explained that this was what we had done.

The IMPACT was that the children used their imagination and skills to be able to plant 🪴.This would help promote their fine motor skills further.

At home you could help in your own garden by planting different kinds of seeds and bulbs to see how they grow.

Dinosaur Print Painting 🦖🎨

What dinosaurs do we have? What marks can we make? 🎨🐾🫆🦕

Today we have been making prints with dinosaurs, using paint to print their feet onto paper. As we looked at the dinosaurs and their prints we spoke about the colours we could see, how many toes each dinosaur had, what we could use to print with and so much more. We also discussed dinosaur noises when making them stomp in the paint, the children enjoyed making roaring noises also. When we looked at the dinosaurs straight away the children began identifying them, and speaking about what features they had, pointing out things like sharp teeth, big claws, and more. We used these observations to discuss the dinosaurs that we were using further, even singing “Sleeping Dinosaurs” and doing lots of stomping ourselves. Printing with dinosaurs allowed us to develop our physical skills especially our fine motor skills as well as allowing us to explore colours and mathematics too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children freedom with paint and mark making whilst also develop their colour skills and maths skills. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by setting up lots of different coloured paints, dinosaurs and paper and allowing the children to explore the shapes that the dinosaur prints made, dipping dinosaurs into paints and making marks with them, counting the number of prints we were making and how many toes each dinosaur had. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to learn about different colours and mathematics whilst also developing their fine motor skills too.

All in all we have had lots of fun exploring the dinosaurs, free painting and mark making and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this drawing activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:
