Bees are making the most of the Indian summer by collecting pollen and nectar on the last flowers of the season. Ivy is known as one of the last food providers for bees in autumn. It is usual to see bees bringing back an impressive amount of pollen to the hive when Ivy is in bloom. However, its nectar gives honey a very strong flavor that is not to everyone's taste. In addition to Ivy, other plants are in bloom like the sunflowers on our post. Those last resources are important because it is the last chance for bees to be prepared for winter.

Bees have started to make propolis to prepare for winter! This dark brown sticky mixture made by worker bees plays a major role in the hive’s safety, by isolating the nest from cold and bacterias. The composition of propolis depends on the kind of ressources they can access. However, in most cases we find around 3/4 of trees resin and beeswax in propolis.

To all my fellow beekeepers and bee lovers, please support Ukrainian Beekeepers by emailing Apimondia to ask them to move the Apimondia meeting this year somewhere outside Russia. You can do so here https://www.apimondia.org/contact-us.html
The Brotherhood of Ukrainian Beekeepers has written a letter to APIMONDIA calling for an appeal. After the events that have transpired in Ukraine, the Brotherhood is asking for the 47th International Congress of Apimondia to be relocated outside of the Russian Federation. They are asking that all plans be immediately stopped and the location be changed. They also have many other asks within their appeal.
This was just a summary of the highlights of their letter. To read more from the Brotherhood's words themselves, please go to:
