55 out of 56. That's how many UK trials Sparkler winter wheat yielded above 100% of controls in, across different sowing dates, weather, soils and disease pressures. Elsoms describe it as no off sites and no off situations, and say it's backed by on-farm performance.

It's a cross of LG Skyscraper and Graham. Full piece on TFF: https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?resources/2577/

Drilling's getting on. BASF Agricultural Solutions' Stuart Kevis says the key is minimising seed return, and colleague Steve Dennis explains why a lower dose lets the tougher plants through to breed.

The piece on TFF covers drilling depth, rain timing after a residual and what BASF found across 97 UK trials. Have a read before the sprayer goes out: https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?resources/2575/

Two extremely difficult, dry seasons, and the weather isn't getting any easier to call. Elsoms have put a piece on TFF about picking a variety to cope with season-to-season swings, using Sparkler winter wheat as the example.

It rates 7.2 for Septoria tritici and 7 for yellow rust on the AHDB Recommended List, which leaves more room on fungicide choice, timing and sequencing. Worth a read before drilling: https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?resources/2577/

Black-grass and ryegrass programme sorted for this autumn? BASF Agricultural Solutions have put a piece on TFF on setting it up to stop seed return.

They say nearly a decade of monitoring hasn't turned up resistance to Luximo, but it's one tool and not the whole answer. Stale seedbeds, drilling date, dose rate and getting the spray on before the weed's through all come into it.

The chart is what black-grass control costs per hectare. Worth a look before you drill: https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?resources/2575/
