I have "hung up" my cake making apron and will no longer be taking commissions for wedding/celebration cakes as its so expensive to keep the business going for the amount of cakes I am able to make during a year. I want to thank each and every one of my wonderful clients through the years who have tested my skills to the max - I have loved every cake I have been tasked to make.

I am still happy to make cakes for friends and family so please get in touch if you would like my help, and if I can, I will.

My last cake of 2024 - something I have never tried before - ruffling - made by using lengths of sugar paste about 1.5cm wide stuck onto a covered cake. This cake consisted of a 10" lemon drizzle sponge covered in Moss Green sugar paste with the ruffle effect. 8" dummy covered in white sugar paste and finished with edible 24ct gold leaf, 6" vanilla sponge covered in Moss Green sugar paste with hand made sugar feather/leaf details, top tier was a 4" lemon drizzle with the same white sugar paste and 24ct gold leaf finish. A stunning show stopper for any wedding.

Here's one for the Country Folk - a pheasant shooting/vintage tractor cake - a tall 8" lemon sponge with lemon butter cream (6 layers in total) finished in white sugar paste with hand cut silhouettes and hand made cartridge cases.

This weekend I delivered this little beaut just a mile up the road. I was asked to make a "Lambeth Style" wedding cake with handmade sugar Saluki dogs as a topper. First of all I had to take a deep breath as I haven't done any kind of decorative piping for quite some years. We decided on a fairly simple design and made a compromise - That was before I discovered these amazing moulds by Katy Sue Cake Decorating - I quickly went back to my client to show her what I had found and she was delighted and I was given 'free rein' to create a Lambeth Style cake. To say I am pleased with the result is an understatement. What I would say is that this took so much longer to achieve than piping as each swag and tail had to be made individually and stuck onto the cake, unlike piping it straight onto the cake (NOTE TO SELF: get your piping skills up to scratch as I think this is the new go to style).

The Saluki topper added another level of stress as I knew how much these pooches meant to my client and I had to get them right. I have stared at their photos for hours making sure the markings are in the right place and that they were as near in likeness as possible.

So this cake consists of three tiers, bottom in lemon drizzle and top two are rich fruit cake.

First proper cake done since having my rotator cuff operation (not gonna lie, its taking longer to get back to normal than I had anticipated).

Here we have a two tall tier sponge cake (bottom was chocolate with chocolate buttercream and the top was lemon drizzle) finished with vanilla buttercream and handmade navy roses and foliage with a touch of pink, all set off with edible gold leaf. A bespoke topper finished off the look. Congratulations Okke and Richard, wishing you lots of happiness in your future together.
