Cremeschnitte… often called custard slice — but they’re not quite the same. 🍰
This is the version I grew up with.
Light. Delicate. No heavy icing — just a soft dusting of sugar.
Layers of crisp pastry…
And in the middle, real custard made slowly, with real vanilla bean.
It should hold its shape, but melt the moment you take a bite.
This one enjoyed a moment in the sunshine before heading to Neath today — and it was a real pleasure to bake.
Simple ingredients, done properly. That’s where the magic is.
