Had the honour of making a good friend’s birthday cake recently and it was entirely up to me to choose the flavours, how fun!

After much contemplation, I decided to go with the insta-famous strawberry watermelon cake inspired by Black Star Pastry in Australia. It’s so fresh, light, and fragrant. This cake consists of two almond dacquoise layers, rose scented cream and watermelon, then topped with strawberries and pistachios. Should’ve added dried rose petals but didn’t have any with me at the time.

No regrets at all with my choice and actually wishing I made a bigger one so we could’ve all ate a bigger slice at the party! Definitely one of my favourites now and can’t wait for a reason to make this again 🤤

Kek Lumut, also known as a steamed moss cake, is hugely popular in Sarawak, Borneo (Malaysia). Although it’s steamed, it’s also really decadent, containing coconut jam (kaya) and Horlicks. I promise it tastes sooo much better than it looks!

I was asked by a customer to make this cake for her Eid celebration and I hadn’t made it before. But I’m so thankful for customers who trust my baking/cooking skills enough to request I make it! So relieved when she came back to say they loved it 🥰

Sarang Semut, or Ant’s Nest Cookies, with an overload of “ants”. To describe it simply, it’s a custard cookie base topped with chocolate rice sprinkles.

When it comes to custard based cookies for Eid, you’ll always find the classic semperit and the dahlia. But this sarang semut doesn’t get enough attention. Is it just the way it’s named? Because I sure prefer this to the other types!

Kuih Makmur, a.k.a. Prosperity Cookies. Delicate ghee shaped like leaves and filled with crushed sweet peanuts.

Ramadhan is near and I’m already starting to bake for Eid. This old school treat is one of my mum’s favourite and a must-have during the festive season. So even though she’s on the other side of the world, making this makes me feel like she’s closer 😌♥️

An all time favourite since I was a kid - honey cornflakes! And a must-have every Eid. But who am I kidding, I can’t wait till then to have them. I’ll eat these all day err day!

Suji cookies: our version of shortbread cookies -- elevated (sorry Scots). An intense buttery flavour is revealed as the cookie melts in your mouth. Try to stop at just having one at a time. We couldn't.

What is everyone’s favourite Chinese New Year treat? A must-have for many of you seem to be pineapple tarts, which has got me baking trays after trays of this wonderful delight, amongst others. They’re a labour of love and no complains because the kitchen smells AMAZING every time!

A modern twist to the classic pineapple tarts - chocolate hazelnut tarts! This dainty little treat has a melt-in-your-mouth buttery biscuit base that is double baked, with soft and creamy chocolate hazelnut topping.

p.s. Just while typing this I’ve already popped 6 pieces into my greedy mouth 🌚
