Wonderful opening night for Pantomime Shorts yesterday!
Check out a review of the show by Bradley Stoke Radio.
Pantomime Shorts*** Produced by Magnetical and The Space Opera Theatre
Four short pieces by new writers make for an entertaining evening at Alma Tavern & Theatre.
The first, by Stuart Smith, tells the story of Red Riding Hoodie (Meg Pickup) who is delivering far more than cakes to her Nan! A great concept and I loved the weird wolf although the sudden discovery of a magic lamp meant the story lost a little cohesion.
The next two pieces were by Merlin Goldman, the first a piece about an American screen star returning after twenty years, to perform pantomime in a seaside town. He finds he left behind far more than memories. A genuinely very funny piece, well developed characters, with a great acting performance from Imogen Greenwood.
His second piece involved two guys, the inside of a pantomime horse, awaiting their audition results. Another piece that had the audience laughing out loud as the characters were brought to life by Ben Nash and Daniel Eccleston.
Karolina Kew was the writer behind the last piece, Beauty and Cinderella. Definitely two girls who were determined to make their own fortune in the world rather than relying on magic and men! An interesting twist on the traditional characters in a well written piece.
