My Story

Makes and Bakes by Rachel was established in 2016 as a hobby baker for friends and family, with a page to post pictures of my cake creations. After my 2nd child and a persistent husband pushing me into believing my cakes were indeed good enough to sale and to the make the jump into a whole new career, I began to advertise my services for making homemade decorated cakes for any occasion., behind a hand covered face full of doubt and fear. Thankfully the hands soon fell as through recommendations from family, friends, friends of friends and those who had seen and tasted my cakes from events they had been too, a steady stream of orders came through! I cannot thank those who have supported me and my business enough, without you and your orders and recommendations it would be nothing.

Two and a half years on, I’m still learning new skills, still self taught and still correcting cake details I’m not happy with, but I’ve realised that this is the cake industry and that this is probably how it will always be, always learning, always redoing decorations late into the night until I’m happy because cake baking and decorating is a passion, and a cake decorator will always be their own worst critic, to ensure that the cakes that pass from me to you, will help give a special personal touch to a very special occasion.
