💗 10 YEARS IN BUSINESS… AND I’M STILL HUMAN. 💗
I’ve been thinking carefully about whether to write this post, but I’ve always believed in being open and honest, so I wanted to share a little about the reality of running a small business.
Recently, I received a negative review following the cancellation of a cake order. I completely understand why the customer was disappointed, and I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to fulfil the order as planned.
I won’t name anyone or share individual details, because this isn’t about one person. It’s about the people behind small businesses and the challenges that can sometimes arise.
For 10 years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into The Cake Minx Cakery. I’ve worked long hours while balancing motherhood, family life, illness and all the other responsibilities that come with running a business on my own.
And the truth is, I’m human.
Sometimes I get ill. Sometimes my children get ill. Sometimes unexpected circumstances arise, and despite our best intentions, things don’t go to plan.
As a small, one-person business, I don’t have a team who can always step in at short notice. When something goes wrong, I do my best to communicate, take responsibility, apologise and put things right wherever possible. I also take those experiences seriously and use them to review how I can improve.
I understand that customers may feel disappointed, especially when a cake is connected to an important occasion. Those feelings are completely valid.
At the same time, behind The Cake Minx Cakery is a mum of three who cares deeply about her customers and takes great pride in the work she creates.
One difficult situation does not define 10 years of hard work, hundreds of happy customers and countless cakes made for special occasions.
I love what I do, I’m incredibly proud of the business I’ve built, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me over the years.
So this is simply a gentle reminder that small-business owners are people too. We’re doing our best to provide a service we care about while navigating everyday life, just like everyone else.
Small-business owners are allowed to be human too. 💗
