A sunny day for treating bees for varroa mite with oxalic acid. This involves a 12v battery and a heated tray (fitted with a glow plug) which transforms the oxalic crystals into a gas. It’s harmless to the bees but causes them to groom themselves and each other. Hopefully, the varroa mites fall off their bodies and die. Varroa mites are devastating parasites that feed on the fat bodies of both adult honey bees and developing brood, severely weakening them and suppressing their immune system. Oxalic acid is naturally organic (found in rhubarb, spinach and many other plants), and it’s approved for Varroa treatment.
