An exciting (but rather long) announcement…
At the end of July, I left London Road Bakery in the hands of its new owners. As many of you will know, I had been at the bakery since I was 11 years old (with the odd bit of time off for good behaviour!) and so leaving was a big decision. I grew up above the shop (or ‘the old girl’ as I like to think of her) and raised my 4 children there so it holds a very precious spot in my heart. However, it was a 362 days a year job and the time had come to slow down a little.
I just want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you from me (& all of my family) to you, the community who support this shop, and to the many lovely people who we have employed over the years, especially the current team who truly were my ‘work family’. I honestly can’t count how many people worked for me in my time, some passing through briefly and others who managed to put up with me for many years. Each one brought something different to the team and added to the shop’s longevity and success, so thank you all. The customers and team were truly the highlight of the past 45 years, obviously along with the warm jam doughnuts that I enjoyed for many a breakfast!
So, a new era in this shop’s 175 year history is underway and I want to wish the new owners every success. They are lovely people and keen to invest and expand the store so I’m sure you will see lots of exciting changes in the future. However, the core things will remain the same…fabulous, handmade food (yes, still baked on site every day) and the wonderful team of people who care about the service you receive.
