If you already know this story, this is going to be really boring for you. I’m not sorry about that. Scroll on!
When Nan and Grandad bought our shop in 1984, it was called Ditchfields. And it had a little red sign ♥️
Being the original money saving experts that they were, they took the L, I, E, and S from the original sign, and had an A and a N made (as well as a little accent for our é), so that it said Lainés!
It meant that the letters were always a little bit mis-matched. And whoever stuck them up could have done with spacing them a little more evenly! 🤣
Back in 2021 I redrew the letters and we had them made so that it was all neatened up! They’re still really similar to the old ones, we’d never want to lose the character of the old woodcut ones.
We still have the old ones on display in the shop, they’re part of our story! Some of the original letters are at least 50 years old (which is much much much much older than me) 😎
Anyway I just like sharing that story. I think it’s pretty cool.
I hope you’re all having a lovely week. We’re back tomorrow 10-2. A reminder that we’re closed next week, and you can pre-order to stock up til Saturday. Cheesecakes are on our story!
Thanks friends
