Let’s pipe a basic carnation. I used tip 104 and I use Swiss meringue buttercream.

A golden celebration for a golden soul. Enjoyed putting this cake together.

With the weather warming up, this is one of our popular spring/summer cake. Our cakes are usually a Swiss meringue finish but there’s something about fresh cream during this time of the year.

One More Candle 🕯️

I believe some people cross our paths for reasons we don’t fully understand at the time.
During one of my nursing placements, I built a special rapport with a young patient. During routine observations we ended up chatting about cake. He told me banana bread was his favourite. I joked and asked when his birthday was and said, “If I’m feeling nice, I might just pass by with some.”
His birthday turned out to be five weeks after my placement ended. He had forgotten about the conversation, but I told his partner that if she let me know where he was, I’d keep my word.
So I baked the banana bread, made sure it was still warm, bought the biggest balloon I could find, and went to visit him the day after his birthday. When he saw me he laughed and said, “I thought that was just chat when you said it.”
A year later his partner contacted me to order a cake for him. I asked what she wanted but refused to take payment. We would surprise him again. This time it was lemon cake. I baked it and delivered it to his home, even wearing my bakery uniform so he would take me seriously.
As I was leaving I said, “Same time next year… we’ll add one more candle.”
That moment stayed with me.
Working in oncology, haematology and palliative care means you witness fear, pain, uncertainty… but you also witness incredible courage. People fighting quietly every single day.
One More Candle was born from that experience.
It’s my small way of celebrating life in the middle of difficult journeys. A reminder that if someone is still here, that moment deserves joy.
So if you know someone walking that path and they have one more candle to add, please let me know. I’d be honoured to celebrate them in my own little way.

A special thank you to this beautiful couple for allowing me to share their story and for generously sending the photos that made this post possible.

So where is Evelisa’s today?
What started with cakes has grown into something much bigger than I imagined. From the beginning, the vision was to create a space where people could find everything they needed to celebrate in one place. Evelisa’s now sits at the heart of celebration, creating cakes, florals, balloons and curated pieces that help mark life’s special moments.
I look forward to being part of your celebrations, birthdays, proposals, bridal showers, wedding cakes and the milestones that bring people together. From dessert tables and special gifting to helping celebrate grand openings and new beginnings, it’s an honour to play a small role in moments that matter.
The gifting side of Evelisa’s is something I’m excited to grow even more, with special gifting experiences coming soon.
Another part of this journey I’m stepping into is teaching and mentoring . I don’t have everything figured out, but along the way I’ve learned a lot through mistakes, persistence, and small wins. If I can help someone else find their footing in this industry, I would be honoured to share what I’ve learned.
More than anything, I want to see people win in their businesses, in their celebrations, and in the milestones that shape their lives.
In many ways this business has become my little pulpit a space where creativity, encouragement and celebration meet.

How I Got Here 🤍

I’ve always knew I wanted to have more than one stream of income.
My first adventure? Mary Kay.
Then I sold wedding gowns.
Then clothes.
Then Forever Living products.
I’ve always been that girl.

Then I had my little girl, and I wanted something I could build from home. Something creative. Something mine no commission. So I started baking properly.

I developed my recipes and enrolled in the prestigious College of YouTube to learn cake decorating. When I get into something, it consumes me. I bought every tool I could get my hands on and practised relentlessly.
Let me take this moment to thank my friends and family who supported me in those early days and even ordered from me,  because in retrospect… those cakes were questionable 🤨😂

Around that time I also joined , where I had the privilege of working with a wonderful mentor, Jo. Through the programme I received my first £250 grant cheque, and later a £1,500 investment that helped me purchase Franc, the mixer I still use today  eight years later. That support made the dream feel real and gave me the confidence to keep building. But like my granddad, their encouragement kept me going.

I went on a course with Cotton & Crumbs and later spent time with (she’s wonderful ☺️) to get some hands on training. Originally my business vision was a one stop wedding shop. So I took a wedding floristry course with (another great group of people),having never arranged flowers before and I found a new escape.
When you arrange flowers, the world goes quiet. It’s just you and the composition and that’s how our flower boxes bloomed.

Then life, as it does, happened.
Covid came. I faced some personal and health challenges. I disappeared for a while. In that disappearing act, a girl went to nursing school and got a degree hotter 😜

I put this side of mine on the shelf but I’ve found my way back here, with a different mindset, bigger goals, and more intention.

And I’m so glad you’re here to share this adventure with me ☺️

I’m late to the Meet the Maker challenge… but here we are.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Sekai. I’ve been baking since I was a child, but my love for it was truly sparked by my grandfather a man with the sweetest tooth and the biggest heart.
During school holidays in Chiredzi, by day two he’d already be asking for a shopping list and the recipes I wanted to try, the kind of recipes you’d never get away with at home, the bill payer here was generous 😅 in his house, imagination could come to life.
My fondest memories are flour everywhere, absolute chaos in the kitchen, and laughter that felt endless. He would always tell me in our language, “hamuitiki vasikana”, no one does it like you, my girl.
We had frequent power cuts back then. As soon as the electricity returned, it was cake time. He would sit in the kitchen with me while I baked, a little healthy gossip or a shared prayer while we watched the cake rise together. Midnight freshly baked cake and milky coffee. He’d shamelessly store half the cake for himself and generously share the other half with the rest of us.
To say he was my best friend is an understatement.
Baking and cooking became more than a hobby they became my love language. Every cake I create now is an extension of those memories. Of that laughter. Of that midnight warmth.
And that’s where it all began 🤍
