As some of you may know, my cat Molly decided that Download Festival weekend was the perfect time to have her babies… all SIX of them 🤘🏻🐱😂

So now I have six tiny kittens running around, all needing names!

And what does a business owner who bakes cakes do when she needs help naming kittens? Obviously bribe people with free cake 🍰😏

Customer order 🎂🍓

One of my lovely customers couldn’t decide between flavours… so why choose just one? 😏😂

Instead of one larger cake, we created two adorable 4-inch bento cakes! 🥰

🍫 Chocolate cake with chocolate gnache
🤍 Vanilla cake with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream

Both finished with fresh strawberries and a little birthday topper 🍓✨

I absolutely love this idea for anyone torn between flavours, or for couples, families and friends who all have different favourites 😍

Sometimes two small cakes are better than one big one 😉

And the best part? These are also available for Father’s Day! 🥰

Whether Dad loves chocolate, vanilla, or you can’t decide between the two, these little bento cakes make the perfect sweet treat to celebrate him 💙

Well that’s something I never thought I’d be doing… talking live on the radio! 😳📻

Firstly, thank you to everyone who tuned in this morning to listen to my chat with BBC Three Counties Radio. The support, messages and kind words have been incredible, and I genuinely appreciate every single one of you. ❤️

If I’m honest, I could have spoken for hours about this topic. There is so much more to discuss around street trading licences, the challenges small businesses face, and the need for clearer guidance on the safe and legal routes available to us.

My aim has never been to cause problems or avoid rules – quite the opposite. I think many of us simply want clarification so we can continue serving our communities while staying within the guidelines.

I wasn’t able to say everything I wanted to, but I’m hoping the responses I did give made some sort of impact and helped people understand why this situation has been so difficult, not just for me but potentially for other small businesses too.

I also want to say a huge thank you to BBC 3CR for being so patient with me. I’m definitely not a public speaker and I was incredibly nervous! 😂

At the end of the day, I’m just a mum trying her best to work around family life, help provide for my family, build something I’m proud of, and if I’m honest… stop myself from going completely bonkers as a stay-at-home mum. 🥰

The cake shed may be closed for now, but Batter & Bake is still here. I’ll still be doing markets, celebration cakes, custom orders and working hard behind the scenes while I figure out what comes next.

Thank you all for continuing to support my little business. It means more than you’ll ever know. ❤️

From a little shed outside my house to being asked onto the radio... that's definitely not something I had on my 2026 bingo card! 😂

A little update from me regarding the Bake Shed 💔

As most of you know, there has been a lot of discussion recently surrounding cake sheds and street trading licences.

To be completely honest, as a mum of three, the Bake Shed has been amazing. It’s helped bring in a little extra income for my family, introduced me to so many lovely people, and has been something I’ve genuinely loved doing.

This is not a decision I’ve taken lightly, and it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to risk the potential £1,000 fine, and at this moment in time I also cannot justify the £500 cost required to secure one of these licences.

So, with a very heavy heart, I have made the decision to close the Bake Shed until there is more clarity on what is required for us to trade safely and within the guidelines set out for us.

I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who has supported the shed, stopped by for a treat, shared my posts, recommended me to friends, or simply cheered me on. Your support has meant more than you’ll ever know ❤️

This isn’t goodbye from Batter & Bake though!

I will still be attending my markets, taking custom bake orders, and creating celebration cakes as normal 🎂🍪

There are also a few ideas in the pipeline… 👀

One possibility I’m looking into is setting up a website where you lovely lot can order your treats directly, either for collection or local delivery/postage. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
