Hi all. Some of you may be aware that Mum is pretty poorly right now. She’s been in bed since last Saturday with a horrible virus, unable to leave the house and has barely eaten in 6 days. Katrina Venner and I are looking after her and checking in on her throughout the day, but she’s pretty weak. (Jenny Venner, Jenny Venner)

Obviously this means she hasn’t been able to visit dad which has been really upsetting for him. Again, Katrina and I are visiting as much as we can but I have Layla still home poorly too. So I’m putting out a plea for anyone to please visit him if you know him, no appointment needed, no need to tell us, just turn up whenever!

Also, when I visited yesterday he was so excited he had received his first Xmas card …. Thank you Janice Crane and Cy Crane ### so if you have a couple of minutes, even if you don’t know him, please write and post a card to him, address below (Fremington Manor). Thank you ###

Calling everyone who knows my Dad (Maurice Venner)…..

This Sunday (12 June) is my Dad’s 76th birthday…. Thankfully, his nursing home is now open again after months of being locked down which has been really tough on Dad, so we can spend time with him.

I thought it would be nice if lots of friends and family that know dad, wrote him a little happy birthday message in an email to me. I can then print them all out and make a little booklet of them for him to read on his birthday.

So please ping me an email asap…. It only needs to be short, feel free to include a bit of news or cut and paste a photo etc, and email to me ASAP at [email protected]

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spend just 5 minutes to do this….. you have no idea how much it will mean to him, and to us. Even if you think he may not remember you, we can then chat to him so he does, which will give us more to talk to him about.

He’s had so little contact with people outside his immediate family this last couple of years, I really want to make him smile.

We have had a lot of new views and likes on this Venners Bakery page in recent weeks so I thought I’d put an update on here.

Venners Bakery sadly closed in September 2017 following my Dad’s stroke earlier that year. He was the master baker and alongside my mum, they traded for 63 years.

Dad (Maurice Venner) is now in a nursing home at Fremington Manor visited often by us all. Mum (Jenny Venner) still lives in Westward Ho! and works in Morrissons in Bideford. They are both keeping really well.

My sister Katrina is still teaching senior school maths and some sport at West Buckland School alongside being a Head of House.

And finally, I (Adele Venner) am still working as an accountant based in South Molton with a firm called Azets, but largely working from home in Bideford where I live with my daughter Layla who is now 9 years old!

We all miss the bakery but have years and years of fond memories that will last forever ###

Thank you so much to everyone who made what could have been a very sad day, such a lovely memorable day. To my parents' old family friends Mike and Joy whom they haven't seen in over a decade (and I haven't seen in 30 years!) for popping in to wish us all well, to my brother Alex (and Alfie) and sister Katrina Venner being there to share the day, to my dear cousin Peter Crane for surprising us by visiting from Wincanton in Somerset with his girls who Layla loved playing with, to Chris Chard our baker for coming to join us for the final few hours-great to have finally met you, to Emma Heard for popping by to show your support with Daisy and Ellie, which made Layla's day, to Gemma Braunton for joining us for Chinese with dad this evening and to Jade Harris and Joe Harris for working and serving our customers on our very last day. And most of all to all our customers and staff for their kind wishes and cards, they are on display in the shop window and will be for a couple of weeks. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Mum and dad have had a perfect day truly fitting for such an occasion. Love to you all , Adele Venner #########
