Meet the sisters behind The Cake Shop 🤎
Our family bought the shop in 2013, but Emma was already working here as a Saturday girl while studying hairdressing and Mum worked at The Cake Shop full time. Our dad always told Karen, “If you ever sell, we’ll buy it!” When the opportunity came, our family went for it. With Mum now retired, it’s us sisters carrying things forward!
Emma | Boss Lady ☕
I run the shop day to day, fuelled by oat flat whites! Anything chocolate gets my vote, but I’m loving our Bakewell French toast croissant. My favourite part is seeing people come together and enjoy our food. Outside work, you’ll find me lifting weights, on the dance floor or with my babies ❤️
Kim | The Behind-the-Scenes “Newbie” 😂
You might see less of me because I run our other business, Puddleducks Nursery & Pre-School Colmworth. I’ve recently stepped away from critical care nursing to focus on our businesses and my two girls—a big decision, but an exciting new chapter! I love a toastie or Biscoff traybake, holidays with my girls and squeezing in some reformer Pilates.

We can tell each other exactly what we think—and we certainly don’t always agree! But we’re sisters first, there’s nobody we trust more, and we’re proud of what we’ve built together.

She’s also the one who brings me back down to earth when my ideas get a little too ambitious—usually with a reminder that I’ll probably regret them later! 🙈😂
How long have you been at the shop?
28 years! I started my Cake Shop journey back in 1998.
Favourite thing to eat or drink?
A brownie and a black Americano—the perfect pairing!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working in a friendly environment where every day is different.
Something customers might not know about you?
I’ve worked in retail for 48 years!

She always keeps the banter alive and has her wooden spoon ready for a little stir—there’s never a dull moment with Alice around! 🥄😂
