The wedding cake I made for Charlotte and Leo’s special day. They said they’d like it to be in their colour scheme of pastel lilac and blue, to include butterflies and sugar roses and left the design up to me.
I knew I wanted to include some hand painting as that’s what I love doing but I had very little time to work on it so I didn’t actually come up with a design before I started it. I made a variety of sugar flowers (roses and leaves, sweet peas, daisies, hydrangeas, lavender and eucalyptus) and then found an image I thought would work well painted onto the middle tier of the cake. Then I made the flowers into 2 arrangements and swore a lot while I tried to insert them into the cake. I broke so many at this stage but luckily it all worked out in the end. I painted a few butterflies onto the cake and also made a couple out of icing to give it a bit more dimension.
I was totally delighted and relieved with how it turned out after totally winging the design and having not made a cake for over a year. I couldn’t have been happier if I’d planned this design from the start. While I don’t particularly miss making cakes I did actually really enjoy creating this first them 💜🩵

I dusted off my cake equipment to make a cake for my mother-in-law’s funeral last week. She loved birdwatching so I thought it was fitting to hand paint these long-tailed t**s, a goldfinch and a nuthatch onto modelling paste which were then attached to the painted cake. I decorated it with silk orchids which were one of her favourite flowers.

I made a cake for my daughter’s 17th birthday this week. Chocolate cake with chocolate orange buttercream made to look like waffles with dark chocolate ganache for the chocolate sauce and sugarpaste blueberries. It was fun to make and pretty quick too which was nice.

I actually made a cake!! My penultimate official order was for previous clients of mine Richard and Jenny. Richard was celebrating his special birthday and as he’d previously owned a Morgan +8 they asked me to make a blue and white cake and to put the model of the car they had found on top of it. As the top tier was 8” the model was far too small on its own so I made the numbers to stand upright just behind the car and then suggested that I handpainted the Morgan car badge onto flowerpaste and attach it to the front of the cake.
My last order will be a wedding cake at the start of June although I’m sure I’ll be making a cake of some kind for Charlotte’s birthday in May too.

This isn’t one of my cakes but I thought you’d like to see the cake that my 16 year old daughter, Charlotte made last week. It was for her boyfriend’s Nan who always makes birthday cakes for her family but never has one made for her. She is an electrician so Charlotte decided to make this electrician’s test calibration meter cake.
We’re very grateful to Toppers by Tami for providing the excellent quality edible image when my edible printer stopped working. She recreated all the elements on the image so that it was a far better resolution than the original which was brilliant!

Happy new year everybody. It’s been strange but lovely not having to hit the new year running with cake orders and just having 2 orders left to complete before my business is closed properly. Anyway, I realised I didn’t post any pictures of the last cake I made back in November. David and Julie are very good friends so I was happy to make a cake for him when Julie asked if I would. We agreed on simple round cake with his Ferrari F355 painted on it and I also painted the Ferrari logo. I delivered it to his son in Eastbourne and then it was transported to Wales where they were celebrating his special day.

I’ve had lots of people asking if I’m going to be making fudge or anything for Christmas this year so I thought it was about time to put up a post. I’m just going to be doing orders for fudge this year and will be limiting how many I take on too so if you’d like some then please let me know as soon as possible before I close my order book. I’m afraid I’ve had to increase my prices this year due to the rise in prices of ingredients, gas, electric etc.

Fudge is available in the following flavours:
Xmas Pudding;
Vanilla;
Oreo;
Irish Cream;
Aero (chocolate mint);
Chocolate Orange;
Jack Daniels;
White chocolate, cranberry and pistachio;
Cherry and ginger
Lotus Biscoff.

It will be £6 for a 200g bag or 3 bags for £15. Gift boxes are £7.50 for 250g. You can have a single flavour in a box or have it divided into 2 different flavours. Bags are 1 flavour only.

Jessica and James renewed their vows and celebrated last Friday at the spectacular Battle Abbey. They asked me to make a black wedding cake with a gold, burgundy, deep red and purple colour theme and sent me a picture of a cake design they loved by Buttercream Bakeshop. I adapted the design to accommodate the 4 tiers they wanted and made sugar roses, cosmos and anemones as well as some leaves for the arrangements on it. I love how dramatic it turned out.

Michaela & Paddy were married at The Pilgrims Rest on Saturday. It was a real pleasure to make their wedding cake for them. As they met in Australia they wanted the cake to have a subtle Australian theme so we decided to go with a king protea flower for decoration - both painted and sugar versions and some sugar eucalyptus leaves. They really liked the cake by Clark Cakes that I’d shown them so I used her brilliant tutorials to make the sugar flower and the bottom 2 tier bark effects. The top tier of my cake is a crackle effect that I’ve used several times before and is done a bit differently to the one in her tutorial. I also added a painted protea along with more eucalyptus leaves so that it was in my style too.

With a heavy heart I’m writing this post to let you all know that I’ve made the decision to finally close down my business. Over the last few years my passion for cake decorating has been dwindling and I’m now at a point where it’s become a chore and each order causes me massive anxiety from start to finish, to the point that it’s been making me ill.
The decision has been coming for a long time, especially with Charlotte’s health problems for the last 4 years but I kept hoping I’d find the love for it again but sadly it just hasn’t happened. I took on less orders this year in the hope it would help but the fact that the majority have been huge, beautiful wedding cakes with masses of sugar flowers has meant that any time in between orders has been spent making all the flowers. And with having a new kitchen and then having the operation to remove my gallbladder earlier in the year and the recovery from that if anything this year has been even more difficult and stressful in lots of ways.
I’ve had an amazing 9 years making do many incredible orders for my lovely customers. Obviously I will still be honouring any cakes I have booked in or if we’ve discussed me making a cake for you but I won’t be taking on anymore new orders. I have 3 or 4 more orders to make this year and another 3 next year so my page won’t be going quiet just yet.
I’m hoping to still enter the odd cake competition and maybe have a go at a tutorial or two too. Plus I’ll still be making cakes for friends and family. And if you would really like me to make a cake for you and you think it’s an order I’d love (illusion cakes especially) then please message me and ask and I’ll see if I can be tempted.
Sorry for the long post but thank you all for your support over the years.

A very personal wedding cake for Lorna & Nick yesterday. They decided to get married last year but to have a big celebration this year. They wanted their cake to include themselves, their 3 dogs, 2 rescue donkeys and a couple chickens to represent their 8 chickens so I handpainted all of these onto flowerpaste. They also have 2 really old oak trees so we decided to have one of these represented on the back of the cake. I made this using modelling chocolate and royal icing.
Their field look totally incredible yesterday and I was honoured to be a small part of their special day.

This was the other cake I’ve spent hours working on. It was for a wedding at the stunning Hever Castle & Gardens on Wednesday. Kate and Charlie are my son’s managers at Abbey Hotel. The journey to the venue and setting it up there was probably my most nerve wracking ever not to mention problems with the heat actually making it but I have to say I absolutely love it.
The design was loosely based on their wedding invitations and included sugar open peonies and David Austin roses (huge thanks to Suzanne Esper Cake School for the fantastic tutorials as always), plus a combination of sugar and hand painted leaves on the cake. All 4 tiers were vanilla sponge with raspberry ripple flavoured buttercream with a layer of Belgian white chocolate ganache under the icing.
This has to be right up there with one of my favourites now.
