's wonderful pots. It was a stonking firing and Jane's had some beautiful results. See her at The Holborne Museum Bath on Sunday 10th May 2026 to purchase.
Hester did a classic 12-13 hour firing. She got very briefly stuck about 1150, but once we'd riddled the firebox to let in more air she happily got to 1273 and we held her between 1230 and 1260 waiting for the cones. RHS cones always seem to go first (lots of theories about why). LHS cones were a little sheltered, so we didn't push them to fully flat. We did a controlled cool to 1000 over about an hour, stoking occasionally to control the drop, while we drank wine and enjoyed the evening air. All felt very relaxed and was a great time to unwind and reflect on the day. Jane explained that there's good evidence that a contolled cool gives the glazes, especially chuns, more glassy clarity. The results are really beautiful, so we have something to work on there.
