It looks simple. It really wasn’t.

This was the fun cake for a wedding evening reception, and it came with a few challenges of its own. A realistic black ball that was big enough to make an impact but light enough to sit safely on the cake board, plus more than 70 individual handmade chain links that all had to be joined and draped so the whole thing looked like a real chain rather than 70 bits of sugar stuck to a cake.

It was a lot of fiddling, problem solving and slightly obsessive attention to detail, but that’s what I enjoy about cakes like this. The finished cake might look simple. Getting it to look simple is another matter.

Thirty deserves a little bit of pink.

These raspberry and white chocolate cupcakes were made for a 30th birthday celebration, with bright pink buttercream, pretty gold details and personalised toppers.

The birthday girl isn’t really a big party person, so the plan was a lovely family meal at one of our fabulous local restaurants rather than a party celebration.

But that doesn’t mean the cake gets overlooked.

Two boxes of cupcakes meant there were plenty to share around the table, and her mum chose a design that was unapologetically pretty, feminine and perfect for a 30th.

I love that cupcakes can do this. They don’t need a huge cake table or a room full of guests to make an occasion feel special. Sometimes twenty beautifully finished cupcakes arriving at the restaurant are exactly the right thing.

And, as always, it’s not just about making them look pretty. The buttercream needs to be beautifully piped, the details neat and the cupcakes themselves need to taste as good as they look.

That’s the standard I want Delicious Pink Cakery to be known for.

Pretty cakes are lovely.

And today we are ganaching. It might look quick when it’s sped up, but there’s quite a bit of work going into those sharp edges! So…Ganache first, then the pretty bit. Bespoke buttercream and ganache cakes in Barnsley Sheffield and beyond.
