Also running fun and friendly cake decorating classes across the area during Autumn 2025 I decided to try and sell my homemade cupcakes on a farmers market stall in the spring of 2009, after trying cupcakes while living in London and finding the frostings of those cupcakes far too sweet. I started with my Vanilla Flutterby cupcakes - that I had been making with my Mum and Grandma from being a little girl. I then started making my own syrups and fillings and playing with the flavours to start building a range of flavours which I was happy with. I had my first farmers market stall in the spring of 2009 and it just rolled from there. Other market organisers asked me to do their markets and thenI started pushing it harder. I had a full time Cake Stall in Heskin Hall Farmers Market and Craft Centre for a year but then left to build my website and operate on an orders basis. I continued to operate on a part time basis alongside my career and then 2 young children came along, all the while, increasing the range with cookies and our really really popular selection of Brownies and Blondies
On the 1st January 2018 I took a huge leap of faith and took over the well established celebration cake shop, Cakes by Ruth, in Chorley. I now have a team which I love and we are really growing all the time with word of mouth and recommendations which is lovely. One Sweet Day still makes hundreds of celebration and wedding cakes every year but we also have a really lovely cake counter stocked with Brownies, Cupcakes, Cookies and other baked goodies which are selling faster and faster all the time. I am so grateful to my customers old and new that have made all this possible so far and look forward to seeing you very soon for a treat or celebration cake. I am dedicated to utilising creative flair to create delicious and elegant home baking to make you smile and make your day that little bit sweeter.
