One cake. Two cakes. Or a full dessert table?…

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from couples is that your wedding cake has to follow a particular formula. Three tiers. Traditional design. Cut it. Serve it. But your wedding cake display can be whatever works for you. A single statement cake can create a beautiful focal point. Two smaller cakes can allow you to incorporate different styles, colours or flavours. Or, if you’re struggling to choose between flavours, why not build a dessert table around your cake with cupcakes, macarons, biscuits, brownies or other sweet treats for your guests to enjoy?

This colourful setup combined two completely different cake designs alongside a selection of handcrafted treats, creating a display that felt fun, personal and completely unique to the couple.

There are no rules when it comes to wedding cake design.
The best choice is the one that feels most like you.

Some of these designs were created years ago and every single one represents a couple, a vision and a moment in time that we had the privilege of being part of.

Looking back through old cake photos is always a reminder of how much love and detail goes into every design. Styles evolve, techniques grow and trends change, but creating cakes that feel personal and special to each couple will always be at the heart of what we do.

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make the biggest impact.

The delicate floral embossing, the hand-applied gold leaf, the soft satin ribbons, the sugar roses carefully placed to flow naturally around each tier… every element of this design was chosen to create something timeless, elegant and effortlessly romantic.

Wedding cakes are so much more than dessert tables centrepieces. They become part of the atmosphere, the styling and the memories captured throughout the day, and we love creating designs where every little detail feels intentional.

Sometimes you just can’t beat the classics… and when it comes to cake flavours, we’ll always have our favourites 🍰✨

At Rachel Clare Cake Design, we’ve realised we’re definitely classic girls at heart…
Rachel would always favour a Victoria sponge or a Lemon drizzle 🍋
For Denise, it’s carrot 🥕
And for Becca it will always be chocolate 🍫
…the kind of flavours that never go out of style.

“Rachel made the most delicious and stunning cake for my partners 30th birthday. She ordered extra icing to get the best matching colour to go with the theme. The best thing about Rachel, other than her perfect cakes, is that she was wonderful when it came to helping us postpone our wedding cake order. Although she has a booking for our new date she came up with a creative plan to still be able to make our cake. Rachel’s dedication has meant so much to us. It is a pleasure working with her on our slightly unique design and I can’t wait to see it come to life in May!!”

Wedding Cake Tip 🍰

Don’t forget to think about styling your cake table, it deserves so much more than being popped in a dark corner of the room where no one can admire it.

Consider:
- The right type of cake stand or plinth
- Candles and/or flowers
- The backdrop
- The lighting (this one is a game changer!)

Your photographer will thank you and your cake will look 10/10 in all of the photos.

This one was such a joy 🥰

Richard & Joanne tied the knot in November 2025 at the gorgeous Pendley Manor, and they went all-in on the sweet treats (our kind of people).
Alongside their fully bespoke wedding cake, we created a whole dessert table moment, cake sickles, personalised cookies, and lots of little extra bites for guests to grab, graze and enjoy throughout the evening.

We absolutely love when couples choose more than just the cake, it turns the cake table into a real talking point and gives guests plenty of options (and excuses to go back for seconds 👀).
