After Halloween and All Saints Day comes All Souls Day.
I made my first ever soul cakes. Slightly spiced biscuits with currants and little crosses cut across the top. When children went ‘soulling’ the soul cakes were exchanged for prayers for the dead.

I love collaborating with other celebrants and it was great to work alongside Irene Gardner last night at the Remembrance Service at Stirlingshire Crematorium.
‘War is not a thing of the past - there are troubling conflicts happening right now in the world, with no end in sight. After two world wars, deep in our hearts we must know that there should never be a third. Our hopes surely centre on this’

Having talked this morning about someone who fair enjoyed their coffee and a yum yum, it seemed like the right thing to do….even though it looks more like smoked mackerel….and by the way, I am not going to eat both of them 😮

An enriching weekend in the Cumbrian countryside with the loveliest celebrants. In between eating homemade and nourishing food, we shared thoughts and words and we laughed…it was wonderful 🍁

Sometimes celebrants get to celebrate their own milestones and it feels really nice😊

I have had the best 50th birthday weekend and feel so lucky to have shared it with people I ❤️

Everyone will be relieved I realised my ‘Tiger Who Came To Tea’ tea as I can stop going on about it. Plenty of time to plan my ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ do for next year😉💕

Things that have helped me find emotional equilibrium after a tricky working week:

A beautiful view of Loch Earn, driving home in the sun after meeting a lovely family.

Making fire c***r vinegar to keep me in fine fettle through the winter months

Eating a nourishing lunch al fresco

Taking delight in noticing the apples above me when I was munching 😃🍏

Yesterday was a special day of farewelling to an amazing man. Held in love by his family, Gerry Docherty was a teacher, a mentor, a writer, an actor, a director, a quizmaster, a community activist, a friend and a gentleman amongst many other things. When I went for an early morning walk I walked past the theatre he was a huge part of for many years and it felt right to pause for a moment there, to see his picture on the wall. Later as we said goodbye at Falkirk Crematorium , there were hundreds of people there, tributes from family and friends, live music, words from Shakespeare and heartfelt thanks and admiration for a man who was an inspiration to others and always encouraged them to make the best of themselves. You will be missed Gerry xx

What does Susan Chown Celebrant do at the weekend? She finds another Celebrant called Susan to play with! Here I am with Susan Fraser of Independent Ceremonies ready to play at the second of two gigs today with Saltire Steel band. This was my first experience of playing with the band and it was lovely to have some friendly support in the sunshine! Xx
