💔 We need your help — and we want to be honest with you

Yesterday, our family business was the victim of a serious cyberattack.
Alice, who many of you know, had her email hacked overnight by criminals based in Vietnam. Within minutes, her personal Facebook, her personal Instagram, her home baking business Willaston Whisk Facebook and Instagram pages, and our very own Karen Davies Sugarcraft Instagram were all taken down.
Years of memories. Years of work. Gone in three minutes.
Alice has spent years building our Instagram page. And on Saturday she was literally at her local village market selling cakes, talking to new customers, full of excitement about what’s coming next — new moulds, new classes, new things for all of you. And then Sunday morning she woke up to this.

We are fighting hard to get everything back, and we will not give up. But in the meantime, if you have ever loved our moulds, bought from us, taken a class, or simply followed along and enjoyed what we do — now is the time we really need you.

*** BIG (LONNNNG) ANNOUNCEMENT ***

It’s been 17 fabulous years since I turned my hobby into a successful teaching career which I’ve absolutely loved. Those 17 years have seen me gain my teaching qualifications, open my own private school, write my own book, co-present many TV shows, demonstrate my skills on both sides of the Atlantic and meet so many fabulous sugarcrafters, many of whom I now count as my closest friends, but I’ve made the huge decision to hang up my teaching cap and return to office life.

Back in 2008, I’d just finished chemotherapy, was completely bald, carrying 15 KG of steroid weight, struggling with chemo-brain, I’d lost my confidence along with a huge part of my vocabulary and was tired beyond belief. Pre-diagnosis, I had a job I loved with Derwent Water, we’d relocated to be closer to the office and I had no plans to ever leave that life, however, post-chemo energy levels were such that I made the decision to enter the world of Adult Education instead. I immediately secured a teaching post with West Nottinghamshire College whilst gaining my teaching qualifications at Derby University before opening my own Cakey Bakey Art (Sugarcraft School) 3 years later.

We weathered the seemingly endless Covid storms, the cost of living crisis and the crazy price increases of butter, chocolate and other essential ingredients/sundries, and it’s been great, but I guess everything has a shelf-life. I’ve loved teaching but I feel so excited (albeit a little nervous) about my career move and can’t wait to get stuck into my new role.

I’m so incredibly grateful for all the support I’ve received over the years and really can’t thank you all enough for elevating me in the way you have. and to each and every one of you who has either walked through the Cakey Bakey Art doors, purchased an online class, my book or my DVD, visited our stands at Cake International or followed from afar - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, it’s been an absolute blast! 🎉🎊💝

Finally, then, I have a very small number of CLASSES WITH A HANDFUL OF PLACES AVAILABLE (which can be found on my website and I’ll list in comments below) and I have four additional class dates for April/May which are currently ‘Open to Suggestion’, but that’s it folks!

I haven’t really thought about what I’ll be doing with my mountains of tools and equipment yet, nor whether I’ll be popping up for the odd bespoke class in the future, but I’ll be keeping my website and social media pages up and running so will post updates once I decide what I’ll be selling.

I feel so blessed to have been able to turn my passion into such a successful career but I CANNOT WAIT to return to the office, to be part of something bigger than just me, to use my brain again, and to eventually reclaim Sugarcraft as my relaxing hobby of moons gone by. 💗💗💗

My ever-popular 'Total Indulgence' boxes are now available for preorder for collection or local delivery on 22nd & 23rd December. Each box is absolutely heaving with over 50 delicious, handmade items including bakes, cakes, cookies, truffles and chocolate goods. What’s more, despite the crazy increase in ingredients costs, we’ve decided to keep our boxes priced at our 2023 prices meaning our large Total Indulgence boxes are still priced at a fabulous £45 and the medium ‘Sweet Sensation’ boxes are just £27.99. Both size boxes also include a box of 16 handmade truffles containing 8 delicious flavours.
