Traditional Finnish Rye breads and Karelian pies from LeipäBaari (Ullan Pakari) at Turku Market Hall 😋.
🤎 Rye bread "Ruisleipä" is national food of Finland 🇫🇮🥇 and the favorite bread of Finns. Authentic rye bread is baked using a rye sourdough without yeast and only flour of rye is used.
Traditional rye bread has a hole in the middle. The hole had a functional purpose; the bread was hung to dry on a pole suspended from the ceiling.
🧡 The Karelian pie ”Karjalanpiirakka” is the most popular salty pastry in Finland 🇫🇮🔝. The crust of a Karelian pie is thin and mostly made of rye. The most popular filling is rice but potato and barley are also used.
Karelian pies can be eaten as they are, but they are even better when warmed up and served with butter or butter mixed with chopped-up boiled egg.
From the LeipäBaari (Ullan Pakari) at Turku Market Hall, you will also find other traditional and delicious Finnish breads. You are warmly welcome 🥰.
