Smokers are essential tools for beekeepers to manage colonies safely and efficiently. Beekeepers use smokers to calm bees during hive inspections or when performing maintenance tasks. The smoke masks alarm pheromones released by guard bees, which are triggered when they sense a threat to the hive. By disrupting these pheromones, the smoke helps to pacify the bees, making them less likely to sting and more focused on consuming honey instead. Additionally, smoke can prompt bees to gorge themselves on honey, which makes them less agile and reduces their defensive behavior 🐝

Το καπνιστήρι ειναι απαραίτητο εργαλείο για το μελισσοκόμο, για να μπορέσει να διαχειριστεί το μελίσσι με ασφάλεια και αποτελεσματικότητα.
Οι μελισσοκόμοι χρησιμοποιούν καπνιστήρι για να ηρεμήσουν τις μέλισσες κατά την επιθεώρηση κυψελων. Ο καπνός καλύπτει τις φερομόνες συναγερμού, που εκπέμπουν οι μέλισσες φρουροί, οι οποίες ενεργοποιούνται οταν αντιληφθούν μια απειλή για τη κυψέλη. Εμποδίζοντας αυτές τις φερομόνες, οι μέλισσες εστιαζουν στη καταναλωση μελιου αντι να τσιμπησουν. Επιπλέον η κατανάλωση μελιού τις κάνει λιγότερο ευκίνητες 🐝

Οι μέλισσες βοηθούν τα φυτά να αναπαραχθούν μετακινώντας τη γύρη μεταξύ του αρσενικού (ανθήρας) και του θηλυκού (στίγμα) μέρους του λουλουδιού. Αυτή η διαδικασία ονομάζεται «επικονίαση» και είναι το πρώτο βήμα για τη δημιουργία των σπόρων, οι οποίοι δημιουργούν νέα φυτά. Είναι σημαντικό να γνωρίζουμε ότι το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της τροφής μας προέρχεται από ανθοφόρα φυτά και περίπου το ογδόντα τοις εκατό των ανθοφόρων φυτών στον κόσμο χρειάζονται την μέλισσα ως επικονιαστή για να αναπαραχθούν. Καταυτό τον τρόπο, μια στις τρεις μπουκιές του φαγητού μας, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των φρούτων, των λαχανικών, της σοκολάτας, του καφέ, των ξηρών καρπών, των μπαχαρικών και πολλών άλλων, δημιουργείται με τη βοήθεια της μέλισσας. Χωρίς τους μελισσοκόμους, δεν υπάρχει αγροκαλλιέργεια και χωρίς αγροκαλλιέργεια δεν υπάρχει φαγητό.
