Baked to Perfection

For the past few years there has been something cooking in the tropical paradise of Costa Rica! The team at Agua y Sal (Which means “water and salt”; the main ingredients in bread!) have been quietly creating delicious traditional Costa Rican baked goods, with a decidedly North American twist. On any day, you may find warm Empanadas & enchiladas sharing a space with rosemary & tomato quiche and Pecan pie. Non traditional items like cinnamon raisin French toast with bacon can be found on the breakfast menu next to typical Tico fare like Gallo pinto. If you are far from home, a familiar brownie may be just the thing to cheer you up. There are also gluten free treats like coconut macaroons on offer.

Of course, no breakfast would be complete without a great cup of coffee and that is something that Costa Rica knows all about. Local plantations produce some of the best coffees in the world and Agua y Sal make it to order, so you can get your favorite latte, cappuccino, Americano or iced Frappuccino to cool you down when temperatures soar.

Baking bread in the tropics is famously difficult, but the ladies here have it down cold. You would be hard pressed to find fresher, tastier bread in the area. Along with traditional white, wheat & multi grain loaves you can now also find sourdough & Cinnamon Raisin among others. They recently expanded their menu to include family meals made to order and delivered locally. If you don’t have a car, a kitchen, or a desire to cook for a large group this could be perfect for you!
