Our Story
Buttercream By Alareen is a private bakery nestled in the heart of Corydon Village. We specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes and sweets tables. Our team of talented bakers and decorators create all things sweet! We are especially known for our signature buttercream and one-of-a kind custom made cakes. We specialize in weddings and events but also cater to any occasion. In addition to our baked goods, we also offer a unique and diverse way to serve custom brewed, quality coffee and espresso at any wedding or event with our Mobile Espresso Cart.
Owner Alareen Doherty started designing cakes as a hobby after graduating as a nurse in 2011. After her signature buttercream and creative cake designs became a hit among family and friends, Alareen founded Buttercream by Alareen; a company whose mission is to create custom edible works of art that will not only look good but taste amazing too!
Alareen started her business out of her own kitchen and quickly realized a commercial kitchen was needed to support her rapidly growing business; specifically to fill wedding orders. She found a space in a community kitchen in downtown Winnipeg in 2014 and shared it amongst other local entrepreneurs. In exchange for rent, Alareen found the opportunity to take on a management role in the kitchen. From there she was able decrease her hours as a full time nurse to a casual nurse. The role as kitchen manager helped her understand the ins and outs of running a commercial kitchen and a year and half later she took the plunge and opened her own commercial bakery in June of 2016.
Alareen's passion for caring as well as for art have fueled her drive to run her bakery as well as continue to nurse. Today, she is happily married, a mother to her little girl, works casually at St.Boniface Hospital in the NICU and works full time as head decorator and business owner of Buttercream By Alareen. Alareen’s main goal is to achieve success in being creative for a living.
