Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company is a family of from-scratch food establishments, all based on a single vision: bringing healthy, sustainable and delicious food to you and your family. We have two bakeries, one in Wolseley at 859 Westminster, and one inside the Forks Market in downtown Winnipeg. Grass Roots and Baba's pantry, also both located inside the Forks market, each provide unique takes on prairie cooking.

It's Mother's Day this weekend and that means some Tall Grass seasonal favourites are back!

Our Queen Elizabeth cake and Imperial cookies reappear around this time every year as we say au revoir to the cold months and embrace springtime
If you've yet to try our Queen Elizabeth cake, it is a date and walnut cake with a crunchy, brûléed coconut topping; it makes for a delightful bite full of flavour and texture.
Our Imperials are filled with a sweet-tart raspberry & cranberry jam made with love at our St. Boniface site!
We will also have other Spring specials like lemon pound cakes & some mini pies may also appear during the weekend!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

We hope you get to go outside and enjoy this beautiful sunshine today like we are at the Forks!

Springtime is fully upon us in Manitoba now and we're eagerly anticipating the first fresh rhubarb, chives, and asparagus which are hopefully not too far around the corner!
Until then, we've got offerings like focaccia, cinnamon buns, baguettes, and so many other treats; come say hi! 🌾

Happy Thursday! If you haven't been by our little cafe/bakery in St.Boniface (Tall Grass Sur la Seine) the last little while, then we have a few new local products available in our shop area to tell you about.

In our fridge, we always carry eggs from

On our "pantry table," we have grains and grain mixes from chips from La Cocina, as well as pasta from .

Throughout the store, you will also see our preserves, such as jam and marmalades, tomato sauce, salsa (hot, medium or mild), and as the growing season starts picking up, local produce as well! That, plus our daily breads and plenty of other tasty baking, of course.

What we're saying here is that it's a great place to stock up on local food! Come for lunch, say hi, and stay to find more than you expected 🌾

For those who frequent our bakeries as well as for those new to Tall Grass, we wanted to share some info about how ordering works at our bakeries🙂

We have two main avenues for ordering at our bakeries:
-Same day orders (either calling in earlier in the day or simply showing up!)
-Ordering ahead by calling our Wolseley, Forks, or sur la Seine bakery in advance

For larger orders of our products like cinnamon buns, we will happily accommodate such orders for walk-in customers as much as we can but we recommend ordering ahead to avoid waiting upon arrival and to make sure you get your treats!

For an order of 10 loaves or more of one of our breads (like the spelt sourdough pictured here), we recommend calling the Tall Grass location of your choice at least two days before your preferred pick-up day. This way, we can ensure that we have the specific loaves you're after. An added bonus is that ordering 10 loaves of bread or more gets ya 10% off your order.

If, however, you're interested in specialty baking (like mini versions of our croissants or muffins) or deli items (like breakfast or bunwich platters) for an upcoming event, we also do catering!

We are all about Easter and Springtime specials at our bakeries for this final stretch of March & we just wanted to let you know about some of the baked goods we have on offer!
Pictured here are two of our long-standing Easter features, P***a and Saffron bread.
Our other seasonal specials include Christopomo bread, hot cross buns, lemon pound cakes, and Chickie cookies, just to name a few!

If you'd like to pre-order your Easter breads for next week, please do so by calling either our Wolseley, Forks, or sur la Seine bakeries to reserve your loaves. We will also have some available for walk-in customers while supplies last!

Easter bread availability:
All three of our bakeries will have Saffron bread, Christopomo, and P***a by Wednesday, April 1, through to Easter Monday.
Tall Grass Fruit Bread will also be out by Wednesday in Wolseley.

PLEASE NOTE: our Wolseley and sur la Seine sites will be closed on Good Friday, April 3, as well as Easter Sunday and Monday.
Our Forks bakery will be open every day during Easter week, 7-7 🌞🐣🌾

There are a lot of pies happening at our bakeries this week because tomorrow is March 14th, better known as Pie Day!

We're celebrating π day by, you guessed it, making a variety of adorable mini pies.

Mini pies available on Saturday, March 14th:

At the Forks & sur la Seine:

If you're after 9" full-sized pies in addition to the minis, we'll have frozen fruit pies available to bake at home as well!

Hot Cross buns have arrived at our bakeries!

Although winter is still very much upon us, we begin baking these buns around this time each year as we look forward to springtime & the Easter season☀️🌱

Our version of these classic rolls includes candied citrus peel, raisins, and warming spices. We only wish everyone could experience the aroma of these buns hot from the oven!
We will now have hot cross buns available at our sur la Seine bakery, at the Forks, and in Wolseley, though the days at each site may vary!

Valentine's has hit Tall Grass and we are busy making our Red River hearts (featured here), as well as decadent mocha kisses and the famous raspberry brownie. These treats are all available at Wolseley right now, all lovingly made: we also have hearts available at the Forks and Sur la Seine this week, with other specials rolling out this weekend and throughout next week!
