A little bit of history...
In case anyone is wondering about the differences and similarities between Thomson Baking Company and Sweet Somethings, here ya go!
In Thomson Baking Company’s logo, it says “Est 2002.” What was established in 2002 was Sweet Somethings, a fudge business that was started by Deborah Thomson. (Now Kakoz)
We (Deborah started it, but over time it became a whole-family venture) quickly started expanding into many more gourmet chocolates including Truffles, Peanut Brittle, Chocolate Nut Bark, and more. Sweet Somethings was run out of our home, which was often changing in those days, and we traveled to sell at different craft and trade shows. A few years ago, (we had been settled in Windsor for a while already) we found a permanent spot at The City Market on Walker Rd. (We are now closed at that location! The business card in the picture hasn’t been updated yet.)
There, we started expanding our menu to include Cookies, Shortbread, and lots of specialty baking, until the name Sweet Somethings Chocolate didn’t quite fit anymore.
So Thomson Baking Co. was born! Naomi Thomson (now Krasinkiewicz) was hugely instrumental in this. We didn’t have the space at first to be a full bakery, so we started small but kept our eyes open for a new location to move into. When we opened our Ottawa St. location, Sweet Somethings was all but a thing of the past.
But...we just couldn’t have that. 😃 We did some brainstorming and came up with a perfect middle ground, which is to keep both as separate businesses, (both owned and operated by us) but only operate Thomson Baking Co. year-round, and bring Sweet Somethings back for a seasonal pop-up shop!
If you made it all the way through that explanation, congratulations! You now understand the difference. 😉 Our Chocolate will be available at Thomson Baking Co. until February 28th, and then not until we come back next time!
