Back when our founders Ed and Natasha were creating the menu for the bakery in 2018, they know there was going to be a lot of sourdough loaves as that was what Ed was already known for making once a week at the restaurant he worked at and rented space from.
It was tough to know what the locals and visitors to Whistler would want to buy but when Ed and Natasha surveyed the landscape and realized a lot of foot traffic would come straight from the ski hill and into the bakery, it seemed like the perfect signature treat would be a sourdough cinnamon bun.
Originally there were 3 flavours: classic, pecan and raisin. The raisin buns were pretty tasty but the weight of the fruit seemed to hold the dough down and they never popped as much as the classic and pecan so BReD took them off the menu in the end.
At first there were complaints from folks wanting cream cheese frosting so it wasn't long before that became an additional offering! These days we sell dozens of cinnamon buns in boxes, usually with frosting too.
