NEW AT THE STAND

Okay friends… these viral DOT CAKES have officially arrived at My Little Stand! 🌈

The trend started with a bakery called The Dotcakes in Roslyn, New York. Their “Dotcups”, little cakes in clear containers completely coated in nonpareils, exploded on TikTok after influencers posted videos scraping spoons across the crunchy sprinkle tops.

These adorable little cakes are layered with soft cake, creamy frosting, and absolutely COVERED in crunchy rainbow nonpareils - and yes, they’re every bit as fun as they look. And each cake comes with its own little spoon so you don’t have to wait to dig in! 💕

Part two of our romantic anniversary getaway to Salt Spring Island was dedicated to one of our favourite things ever… thrift stores. ❤️

On our first day exploring the island, we discovered three different thrift shops, but Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop was by far our favourite. (I always love the women’s auxiliary thrift stores.). The prices were incredibly fair, the store was spotless and beautifully organized, and every volunteer we met was genuinely warm and friendly. You could feel the community spirit the moment you walked through the door.

On Friday, we stopped at the visitor information centre hoping to gather more information about the island’s famous farm stands - whether they were open or closed, their hours, what days they operated, and what they carried. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be one complete source for all that information.

I think Salt Spring’s philosophy is simply: “If there’s stuff on the stand, we’re open. If there isn’t, we’re not.” 😂

And honestly? That’s pretty much the philosophy we use at our own stand too, so I completely get it.

While chatting with the lovely volunteers there, the conversation naturally turned to thrift stores, and they told us about the Salt Spring Island Lions Thrift Store. It was well off the beaten track and we never would have found it just by wandering around, so we were very grateful for the recommendation.

The store is only open for TWO hours a week, ten months if the year on Fridays from 10:00 to noon and we arrived at 11:35.

Oh. My. Goodness. The place was absolutely packed to the rafters with treasures… and people! Every corner held another surprise, and we only had 25 minutes to explore the entire thing. You can imagine my panic when, at 11:55, a little bell rang announcing that everyone needed to head to the cashier. 😂

We could have spent hours in there. One of the volunteers even tried to recruit me to become their social media person! If I lived on the island, I would absolutely love doing something like that. ❤️

Despite the time crunch, I still managed to find a few treasures… and I can’t wait to show them to you.

Thirty-two years together deserved a little celebrating, so we escaped to beautiful Salt Spring Island for an anniversary getaway with a little “business research” mixed in for good measure. ❤️

We spent our days exploring as many of the island’s 218 farm stands as we could, gathering inspiration everywhere we went. We came home with strawberries, cinnamon buns, cookies, flowers, tarts, chocolate… and a whole lot of fresh ideas.

We went armed with every five-dollar bill, loonie, and toonie that had lovingly been left in our own stand lately, and happily spread them back around Salt Spring Island supporting fellow stand owners and makers along the way.
It was exactly what we needed - a chance to slow down, reconnect, recharge, and remember why we love this little stand life so much.

We came home feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and full of exciting ideas for taking our stand to the next level.

What do you think about something like this for Father’s Day on our stand? The burger is a cupcake, the fries are sugar cookies. They would all be packaged up in these adorable Father’s Day cookie boxes. Give me an idea if this is something you would be interested in so I can start planning. (I hope you love the idea as much as I do because I’ve already bought all the boxes!) 😂😂😂
