💗Before the internet… before algorithms served us our interests and fried our brains, minds and spirits with the endless scroll… we had 💖SASSY💖magazine!!! Our cultural lifeline to all things cool and feminist, the mag we’d obsess over and pore through - we discovered new music, rad women, films, books, fashion… it shaped so many of us and gave us a foundation for who we wanted to be in the world… 🥹💝

💝I threw a 90s magazine party for my mom bestie !! Everyone brought old magazines to flip through, we blasted tunes, ate pizza, chips and cake, and it felt like a 90s teen bday party!

💝Magazines were LIFE when I was a teen and twenty-something. I still love treating myself to physical media and supporting PRINT! ❤️🤘happy birthday Becky!!!

Behind the scenes of SALAD CAKE! Crispy lettuce alert! 🥬🥗🍰

I painted edible wafer paper with gel food colour mixed with vodka, then placed in oven on a low temperature for about thirty minutes to dry. Love that crispy snap!🫰

It also held up surprisingly well (on a ferry then a bumpy winding Sunshine Coast BC road 😂) and was still fairly crisp 24 hours later!

🥗Salad cake!!! Inspired by seeing .nguyen make a gorgeous one on 🥰!! Happy birthday to my wonderful mother-in-law Beth! 💝🎂

🥗Painted edible wafer paper crispy leaves, coconut jelly eggs, little chocolate chip cookie square croutons and red gumdrops! My original plan for tomatoes and croutons (painted cake pops) fell through (aka they turned out horribly 😂) so I pivoted!! 🙃

📚Many of you fine folks know I’m working on a rom com novel - follow along at - but I had a realization after making this salad cake. 💝For a while there I thought I was going to QUIT cakes and just write fiction from now on. Turns out I just needed a looooong break after some serious cake burn-out, and I still love cakes 😂🥰

💝Peanut butter blondie but make it ROUND 🔵🥰this is my fave recipe from baking book. I’ve made it with peanut butter and almond butter, varying the nuts on top - every time, it’s a rich, crammed-with-chocolate-and-nuts giant chewy cookie blondie delight. 😋

💝If you bake it in a 9-inch round springform pan, it makes the cutest cake topped with edible flowers and berries 🥹! (Just modify the baking time accordingly.)

I’ve been laptop deep in rom com edits!!! But I made a party dome and a lil baby dome cake for baby Cici’s 1st birthday 🎂💘🥰it was fun to exercise a different part of my brain again! 🙃

💝Vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream, earl grey milk tea, strawberry jam and homemade toffee and candied citrus. Edible flowers from the herb section at Whole Foods.
