The story begins with the owner Josée who has more than 20 years of experience has a seasoned business manager for American Companies while cultivating for 10 years her passion for making bread and learning the art with French Bakers in Montreal. While learning, she stumbled upon this fantastic French Baker and his wife with whom a strong connection developed over time. After many months of discus

sions, it was agreed that Josée would continue their business and to move it to Toronto. While learning the baking trade Josée developed a gluten allergy and struggled to find quality and tasteful bakery and pastry products, a motivation to work at improving her offering, hence the change made to become an entirely Gluten Free & Nut Free Bakery and Grocery. August 2019 is when The Bread Essentials had to make the decision to cease the regular bakery and became entirely Gluten Free. Shortly after; October 1 2019 is when The Bread Essentials obtained it Gluten Free Certification and therefore Celiac approved. Please come to see us for a friendly visit to see what our Bakery and Grocery sections holds that will make you feel like the sky is now the limit! We continuously work to better our offering and develop products that make us feel...we eat normally!

If you know Josée, you know she's a multitasker. If we could harness her boundless energy we wouldn't have an electric bill.

Just to let folks know, especially as we have a lot of new clients joining the family (Hi!! 👋 and welcome!!) Due to the nature of our preservative-free, gluten free breads, we can not slice our fresh SOUR DOUGH bread AND OAT LOAF until the next morning because it needs time to cool right down. Our YEAST breads can be sliced after 1pm. Otherwise it just goes all gummy. And nobody wants that. Also, some of our breads need to be sliced by 'hand' like Josée is doing, and not using the industrial slicer as some of them cause the industrial slicer to go on strike.

We DO have a pinned video on our main IG page of how to make slicing at home easier.

If you specifically need bread sliced and can't pick it up later in the day, please order it on line (specifying that you want it sliced), or give us a call. Also, ordering it ahead of time ensures you get the bread you want and you don't face disappointment if we sell out.

Good morning, friends!

This was breakfast today...
Caramelized onion hummus, topped with Charr original Maple Chilli Drizzle 😍🤩 with a base of Mediterranean-seasoned veg ground round (we don't sell it, and I'm not 100% sure it's gf, so I'm won't mention it - I'm not gf, so i'm ok with eating it), fresh parsley, tomatoes and cucumber. I put it a wrap - perfect breakfast, with just the right amount of sweet and spicy from Charr 🍁🌶🥰
Later today I may have this with some lemon basmati rice, or just as a dip with some other veggies... who knows? This would also be grand on a warmed pita and maybe a little extra zhush of the drizz 😉

Enjoy your day - We're open 10-5 - plenty of time to pop in and treat yourself to a jar of Charr Maple Chilli Drizzle (we also have them in tamarind, and truffle!)

Another, new addition to our wee shop - and Josée has been wanting this brand here since we got our liquor license! - that we are very excited about is Brookston Oaks Highland Lager!
See, we're a bit limited in our ability to get GF adult beverages, as per our license, we can only get them via the LCBO. We have to wait til the indies get into the LCBO's stocks and then we can grab 'em.

SO! Welcome Brookston Oaks!! Now, these folks are 100% gluten free as their own family has battles with celiac disease so they are well aware of what's at stake.

Their Highland Lager is simply water, millet, rice, buckwheat, hops and yeast. "Brewed and fermented by traditional method this beer has a clear golden colour with a white frothy foam.
It has a moderate grainy flavour from the gluten free malts used. It exhibits a light, clean bitter flavour with a neutral aftertaste, and a refreshing light body with balanced carbonation. At 4.4% alcohol it is a perfect beer to enjoy any time with any food." - from their website

Just a quick one - my apologies to our chicken corn dog lovers. I dropped the ball on this one. I thought we had plenty dawgs in the freezer to be battered, dipped and fried, but...

NOT.
So, for this weekend only (August 21, 22, 23) we will not have FRESH chicken corn dogs. We DO have some frozen... and yes, we do have the beef corn dogs, and the vegan ones, all freshly fried and ready for your tummies.

The chicken dawgs have been ordered, we will have them back on the shelf next weekend.

My friends!!!!

There has been so much to be excited about this week - quite a few new additions, but this one!! YES!! I've been quietly 'pushing' for ages for TBE to get Kanel Spices | Épices on our shelves and Josée surprised me yesterday saying we got some at long last!
I've been a Kanel fan for years, so I'm very happy we are welcoming them to the TBE family.

Kanel is a women-owned company from Montreal,and their seasonings are free from preservatives, fillers, hidden allergens, and artificial flavourings. They use fresh herbs and spices from around the world, and are environmentally friendly with compostable bags, recyclable tubes, and, where they can FSC-certified paper (i had to give it a google - paper made from wood fibres sourced from forests managed according to strict environmental, social, and economic standards - personally I find that sort of commitment and consideration very important - so, thank you to their crew for that!)

If you're still with me... thank you, lol, I truly appreciate the folks who actually READ my posts 😄...

Oh friends....
They're heeeerrrrre!

😃🥰 they have arrived! Charr 's newest delicacy: Maple Chilli Drizzle in original, tamarind, and truffle. All 3 are winners. Personally I can't choose a favourite... so I bought one of each yesterday. This morning, I decided on some toast with homemade peanut butter, and grape jelly... but first!!! I drizzled/spread the original over my toast... *gasp* who knew i could be a genius at 345am??? Just the right amount of heat.

We have one jar of each opened and available for tasting, just ask!

This weekend I'm going to make a special thing using ... hmmm... maybe the tamarind drizzle. Stay tuned!!

AND... don't forget Charr's fab sauces (also a favourite of mine) Indian: Tandoori, Mediterranean: dill and parsley, Middle Eastern: sumac and cumin, and Persian: saffron and lime (my absolute favourite... I think I have 5 jars at home, lol)
