The story begins with the owner Josée who has more than 20 years of experience has a seasoned business manager for American Companies while cultivating for 10 years her passion for making bread and learning the art with French Bakers in Montreal. While learning, she stumbled upon this fantastic French Baker and his wife with whom a strong connection developed over time. After many months of discussions, it was agreed that Josée would continue their business and to move it to Toronto. While learning the baking trade Josée developed a gluten allergy and struggled to find quality and tasteful bakery and pastry products, a motivation to work at improving her offering, hence the change made to become an entirely Gluten Free & Nut Free Bakery and Grocery. August 2019 is when The Bread Essentials had to make the decision to cease the regular bakery and became entirely Gluten Free. Shortly after; October 1 2019 is when The Bread Essentials obtained it Gluten Free Certification and therefore Celiac approved. Please come to see us for a friendly visit to see what our Bakery and Grocery sections holds that will make you feel like the sky is now the limit! We continuously work to better our offering and develop products that make us feel...we eat normally!

Hey everyone - a quick post for our neighbours blooms&general (just across the street from the church next to us) they are accepting donations of whatever you can pay for some gently used candles (I assume from the church... I never did ask, sorry!) with all proceeds going to Haven on the Queensway 🥰

Speaking of Haven on the Queensway, I'll have a bigger post coming about them soon! Stay tuned!

Good morning, friends!

Just prepped 120 of our sesame bagels for Lox + Schmear . Lev Levine is a dear friend of the bakery, and she could really use your help.
Lox and Schmear is located at 1030 St. Claire Ave West and are open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9-230 Lev smokes all the Atlantic salmon they use for their bagels and sandwiches on site... and after a very rough year of 'one thing after another' she is actively looking for a new location.
Lox and Schmear has endured a recurring series of equipment and building problems causing 8 weeks of closure for repairs, and a catastrophic loss of $12K + of fish and products due to a power outage.
Lev has started a Go Fund Me https://www.gofundme.com/f/lox-schmear-needs-your-help to help with the costs that will come with moving the business once a place is secured.
Please show her some support by enjoying some of her delicious lox and bagels she has regular bagels and our own gluten free Montreal style sour dough bagels, donate to the Go Fund Me if you can, or, please spread the word about it.

Hello, good morning!

Again, because the stoopy algorithm probably won't let most of you see the TBE Thanksgiving preorder list until a week after T'g... here it is again.
We're taking preorders of this list until Thursday, Oct 8 at 5pm. That's the cutoff point to guarantee you get what you order from that list. After that, you take your chances that we may or may mot have extras cause we're already busy, busy, busy starting to fulfill the orders we've gotten already.

Morning, all!

This lady needs no introduction, but I'll introduce her anyway 😄

Joanne’s Urban Pantry is probably our longest friend/collaborator/vender at TBE. She has had pride of place on the shelves at the front door since I've been here (nearly 6 years) and rightly so!

She makes everything herself. Small batch. She has a keen eye for all of the fresh fruit and veg that she uses. My personal favourites are ALL of the jams (all low sugar), the hot mango chutney (DUDE!!!), the Vidalia onion (also DUDE!!!) (which we're currently out of, sorry), and EVERYONE lives the pickles - the fermented pickles and Meyer lemons are kept in our refrigerator at the front where the drinks and desserts are.

So, in keeping with the gift basket/host/hostess gifts I've been banging on about... none are complete without at least one of Joanne's offerings.
