In February of last year, 2016, I decided to learn how to make sourdough bread the traditional way. I had never successfully baked anything before and even struggled to grow a basic starter. But I researched everything Sourdough and kept at it. Finally I had a vigorous and happy starter and was ready to get baking!
My first loaf was definitely not the prettiest but it tasted so good that I knew this was a challenge worth sticking with. I found that the more I tried to improve my Sourdough the more passionate I became about the whole process. And I felt like with each attempt made, the more love went into my bread, and the loaves really started to improve.
I would bake two loaves at a time, one for my family and one to give away. I was very pleased to learn that there are many others like me who truly appreciate a traditional, naturally leavened, slow fermented bread. There is really nothing else like it. I started make baguettes, pizzas, English muffins, bagels and anything I could think of using my starter and doing things the "sourdough" way.
I just couldn't get enough. Soon, friends and family started asking if they could buy my bread. At this time in my life I was unable to return to my job of 8 years due to unavailable childcare. So making a little pocket money while doing this new hobby of mine seemed like a great opportunity.
Seaside Sourdough, my little home bakery, was born September 2016, only 7 months after my very first attempt at making sourdough. Thanks soooooo much to everyone who has encouraged me, supported me, and to those who keep me believing that this could be something bigger one day. Which would be an absolute dream come true for me. I'm feeling quite accomplished from 2016, so bring on 2017!!!๐
