"Why does a cake cost THAT much? That’s a lot for a cake.”
We’ve heard it before.
And you know what? We understand. Not every cake fits every budget, and we would never expect it to.
But it does make us want to ask a question:
What exactly would you like us to take out to make it cheaper?
1. Should we use cheaper ingredients?
2. Pay our staff less? Take away their benefits?
3. Skip the little details that make the cake special?
4. Spend less time decorating? Use less icing or less cake?
5. Buy cheaper supplies?
6. Cut back on the time we spend preparing, baking, decorating and cleaning?
Because here’s the thing...
When you see a cake sitting in our display case, you're seeing the finished product.
You don't see the hours behind it...
You don't see the consultations & conversations, the ingredients being measured, the cakes being baked and cooled, the icing being made, the boards being prepared, the cake being assembled, the counter and dishes being cleaned and everything being done in between.
And you definitely don't see the years of experience that go into knowing how to turn a pile of ingredients into something that makes a kid's eyes light up. ❤️
We are a small local bakery.
We employ local people.
We buy from other local businesses when we can.
We support our community and local charities.
And we make your cakes right here in Thunder Bay not hours away, only to transport them here.
Could you find a cheaper cake somewhere else?
Probably. And that's okay.
But there's a difference between:
“I can't afford this right now.”
and
“This shouldn't cost this much.”
Those are two very different things.
We will always do our best to offer beautiful cakes at prices that are fair and accessible and we are always willing to work with you to find an option that IS in your budget.
But we also have to make sure that the people making your cakes are making a living wage doing it and that we can pay all of our bills.
We don't need to be the cheapest cake in town. We do need to keep being the cake you grew up with. 😊❤️
