Meet our amazing Judges! The Essex County Sourdough Championship wouldn’t be complete without an incredible panel to taste, judge, and help crown this year’s winners. We’re so excited to introduce the talented people behind the table!

Phil: Philippe Octavien or Phil as everyone knows him is the man behind the magic that is Black Magic Culinary Creations. A presence in the culinary scene in Windsor for the past 11 years. From Private Dinners, Night Markets, to Pop-Ups, Cooking Classes and Supper Clubs he is a Private Chef and Caterer extraordinaire.


Olivia: Olivia started baking at 10 and never really stopped. After formal training at St. Clair and pastry school in Niagara Falls, she fell in love with the challenge of sourdough, the precision of laminated doughs, and experimenting with creative flavors. Equal parts detail-obsessed and dessert enthusiast, she approaches judging with curiosity, care, and a keen eye for what makes a bake memorable.


Rayan: Rayan Mykal is the owner of Bacchus Ristorante in Windsor and has been in the restaurant industry for over 16 years, starting at just 14 years old. What started as a job turned into a full career built on long days, hands-on experience, and learning every side of the business from the ground up. He’s passionate about great food, but even more about consistency, ex*****on, and the full guest experience.

Prepping for the first Downtown Windsor Farmers Market of the season! We are SOOO excited to see everyone again!! ♥️ We will be bringing these beautiful new loaves along, our Super Seeded loaf. It’s packed with organic sunflower and chia seeds which are soaked overnight before being added into the dough mix, then rolled in poppy and more sunflower seeds. It’s honestly so good! 🌻

We’re so excited to share that all 15 competitor spots for the Essex County Sourdough Championship are officially filled!

A huge thank you to everyone who signed up, we are so grateful for the excitement and support this event has already received. We can’t wait to see what each baker brings to the table on May 31! Happy practicing, happy fermenting, and good luck to all of our competitors!!

We still have a few spots available in our People’s Choice category, a fun part of the event where bakers can bring any sourdough-based baked good for guests to sample and vote on.

This is going to be such a fun day we honestly can’t wait!! ♥️

ANNOUNCING

The inaugural Essex County Sourdough Championship.

Home bakers from across the community are invited to submit their best naturally leavened sourdough loaf to be evaluated in a blind judging, celebrating the craft of fermentation and breadmaking.

Spectators are welcome to attend, watch the judging process, explore the competing loaves, and take part in the People’s Choice tasting featuring sourdough creations from local bakers.

Whether you bake sourdough, love great bread, or are simply curious about the craft, we hope you’ll join us for an afternoon celebrating naturally leavened bread.

Sourdough Competitor and Peoples Choice spots are limited to 15 entries each.
