I wanted a bakery and cafe, not a restaurant.
There, I said it.
For years, I have worked hard to build a bakery and cafe where the focus was on quality and not quantity. Where the setting was quaint and rural and where the people could see the hustle and the fatigue. Were there were lulls to laugh with The Blue Door Family we have built and were there was an unspoken ability to work alongside one another on the busy days and crush it with few words needed (okay, there are still usually words cause like...I'm me and they are them).
The goal was N-E-V-E-R BIGGER, bigger building, bigger team.
The goal was building something that fit my life, and theirs. It was building something that could sustain my family and theirs financially without leaving us no time to enjoy life outside the shop. The goal was to do what I love. To show my kids that dreams shouldn't have a limit.
I love that every baked good that leaves our door has been baked and decorated by one of 4 people. That every meal has been planned and garnished by us from start to finish. That we know they just forgot to say "no olives" and don't like them.
There is no production line, no assembly line, no unpackaging food. No shortcuts on ingredients.
We spend time on the details. We choose the jobs that give us a creative outlet. We answer your emails after hours and cry when we are overwhelmed. We laugh while making reels. We race to set up for classes. We kneel on the dirty floor and chat with your littles. We hold your babies so you can eat a hot meal. We replay the entire highlight reel of the Jays game with you.
We keep a small menu so this is possible. We keep a small team so you are cared for and seen.
If we want to travel, or spend time with family or are sick...we are a family and cover for each other. I can make decisions about the business for my family and for the team, with the team.
For this I am grateful. We work hard. We are here for you with our tiny, tired team and a sore feet. Our small batch baking and our limited menus to serve you and support one another.
As we head into what looks to be our busiest season yet, please remember we are daughters, moms, wives, coaches AND your bakery gals. The balance this time of year is tough and while we support one another...we need your support too!
Grateful every day for this rollercoaster ride they call entrepreneurship and for your support through all of it.
