Emily and Gertie, Carl and Frank would spoil and tease, love and fight with their baby sister. She has told us many wonderful stories of her childhood; how they would collect poppies for their seeds to make poppy seed rolls, how they would pick coal from the sides of the tracks to heat the house - a much different world than the children of today know. After school Helen went on to Business Colleg
e and had a career as a clerk for a car dealership and the Army & Navy Dep't store. She also loved singing and did a little bit of acting. She married Carl Michel and they had three boys, Carl (& Magdalene) Joesph (& Tammy) and Frank (& Leigh). She loved motherhood; cooking baking and gardening all became her passions. Later on the grandchildren (all 12!) soon learned that grandma's was the place to go for wonderful treats. Most of her life was spent in Regina, although Helen and Carl did try their hand at farming for a few years in Kendle Sk. After Carl passed in 1993 she lived alone until age 91, when she came to Saskatoon area to live with Frank and Leigh. She spent a year there, enjoying teaching Leigh most of her cooking secrets. Unfortunately the last year was spent in a care home. Her last few days had Frank sitting by her side, and one of the last things she listened to was Frank singing "Catch a falling star", one of her favorite songs. Goodbye Mom, we love you, we miss you.
