Fans of the beloved book and cartoon series Max and Ruby will recognize this hybrid birthday cake: half vanilla cake with “raspberry fluff” filling and whipped vanilla buttercream (Ruby’s cake), and half messy chocolate mud cake with gummy worms, Oreo crumbs and fresh raspberries (Max’s half.) This cake was just for fun! Orange flavoured sponge brushed with orange simple syrup, paired with dark chocolate buttercream…it’s a winning combination. I used buttercream to pipe the oranges and leaves. I love how this effect turned out, and I want to do a series of different fruit and chocolate pairings with a similar theme.

I was thrilled to make this Enid/Wednesday half and half window cake for a sweet little girl turning 6! Inside are three layers of marble cake sandwiched with Oreo buttercream. The Enid half of the cake has classic American buttercream frosting in a rainbow of colours. The Wednesday half has black cocoa chocolate frosting. The window design on top was created with chocolate frosting and royal icing for a nice shine. Happy birthday Brooklyn!
