Hello Friends,

As many of you already know, I ended up heading to Manitoba earlier, and won't be baking this week. There is a chance I'll be baking next week (June 13th). Will be sure to give ample notice if that is the case.

Sending you all wishes for a gentle week.

Hello Friends,

Happy rainy Wednesday. :) I worked in the garden until dark last night, pushing to get seeds into moist ground in time for more rain. The temperature sent the blackflies home early, so I was left to plot, plan, hoe, and seed in peace. The junebugs came out as I packed up, and my cat, who was keeping me company, chased and chewed with great delight. Walking up the slope to the house, I saw bats in the dim light, and lay down in the dampening grass to watch them, nose filled with the scent of apples and lilacs blossoming. It was the perfect spring evening and moments like this make me truly excited to soon be welcoming people back to this property for pizza nights.

Due to family health reasons, I'm taking a trip to Manitoba, so June 6th will be the last day I am at the Moncton Market and baking orders to be picked up at CCC until late September. I'm so grateful for all of my customers. I wouldn't be able to be here doing this and experiencing this without you. ♥️ Beginning in late June, I'll post a list at the beginning of each week, outlining what you can expect to find in the bakery stand every day it is open. If you are driving from a distance or hoping to get certain items, you are welcome to send pre-orders and I'll put items aside for you.

On the bake list this week:

Rustic sourdough - $8.75

If you'd like to make an order for delivery to Crooked Creek Convenience, dm or email what you want, tally up the amount (your math is trusted :) ), and send an e-transfer to [email protected]. Your orders will be ready for pick up at CCC by 8:30am on Saturday. If you are ordering for delivery to you can pay at the market.

Sending wishes for a lovely rest of the week. 💙💚

Hello Friends,

Happy Wednesday! Incredible how long a week can feel when filled with things that are not routine - snuggles with little family members, hours playing in the water and on the beach, explorations with lobster and fiddleheads (the greens turned out to be a bigger winner than the crustaceans...although I'm sure the story of the size of the lobsters in Alma will be told in a prairie elementary school this week ;) ). It was wonderful and I'm grateful to be back baking for you.

Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Ancient Grain sourdough - $8.75

Hello Friends!

Happy blustery Wednesday! It's been a gritty few days, but that's not stopping things from popping up and greening out. Working in my perennial garden last night, I felt the particular joy of clipping away last year's dead growth to see new shoots emerging. Ahhh...spring! The chives are out in force, so, for this mother's day weekend, there's a Chive & Onion sourdough on the list. Also, Amaretti are back. :)

Thinking of mothers...my mum's love of food no doubt was the spark for mine. As a teen, she spent hours pouring over recipe books, learning about cooking and making good and delicious meals for her family. This might not sound like anything out of the ordinary, but my mother grew up in a fairly conservative Mennonite household and explorations of that sort were not common. Women (and it was always women) cooked what their mothers and grandmothers did. Food was tasty, but rarely creative. I think the pressures of adulthood and raising children of her own cut down greatly on the energy that she had for looking up and trying new recipes, but when my parents started their organic bakery in the boondocks of Manitoba (no shade! I love the area!) she was the creative behind what they made. Cranberry-Almond sourdough scones (this was 25 years ago...well before Instagram! 😅) made with 100% stoneground flour but not heavy feeling, tart-sweet, nutty, and just oh, so wonderful. If you like my Double Chocolate-Espresso cookies, you have her to thank. Again, 100% stoneground whole spelt flour and a total treat. Gingersnaps made with blackstrap molasses, because it has all sorts of good to offer that fancy molasses doesn't...I didn't think of that on my own. I am so grateful for my mum and the generational inheritance she passed on that I get to share with you.

Without further ado, this week's bake list:

Bread:
Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Chive & Onion sourdough - $9.75
Apricot-Anise sourdough - $9.75
Chickadee Seed sandwich bread - $8.75

Sweets:
Blackcurrant-Blueberry scones 4/$9.25
Tahini-Chocolate Chip cookies 8/$7.25
Amaretti - almond cookies with a crispy exterior and soft marzipan-like interior, delicately flavoured with citrus zest and orange blossom - 6/$7.25
Cardamom bun - 1/$4.50 or box of 4/$18
Maple-Pumpkin-Flax granola sm/$7.50 LG/$16

NOTE: I'm hosting family from Manitoba next week and will not be baking. Next bake will be on the 23rd of May.

If you'd like to make an order for delivery to Crooked Creek Convenience, dm or email what you want, tally up the amount (your math is trusted :) ), and send an e-transfer to [email protected]. Hello Friends!

I've been wallowing through paperwork for weeks...it's had a Groundhog Day sort of a feel to it. Today, though, I'm starting some seeds before getting going on this week's baking. Lots of fennel, basil, tomatoes, cilantro...flavours to play with more this pizza season! This summer, Carrie, Bill, and I will be hosting Pizza Night Friday-Sunday beginning June 19th. I learned last year that trying to do Pizza Night and the Moncton Market was a recipe for burnout and, as much as I love new recipes, I was not a particular fan of that one. This summer I'll be focusing my energies in Riverside-Albert. Making it possible for us to be open for pizza an extra day and re-opening my farm stand Friday-Sunday each week. I'm hoping my dear Moncton customers will take a drive down the coast, come check out what we are doing here, and maybe try some things that I used to bake but that timing has not allowed for a while, like focaccia with herbs from the garden and Pumpkin-Millet muffins. :)

On the bake list this week:

Bread:
Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Sesame-Miso sourdough - $9.75
Rosemary-Honey sourdough - $9.75
Oatmeal-Molasses sandwich bread - $8.75

Sweets:
Earl Grey-Blueberry-Lime scones 4/$9.25
Brown Butter-Toffee-Cranberry cookies - 8/$7.25
Chocolate-Mint shortbread - 8/$6.75

Hello Friends!

Some of you could rightfully roll your eyes at how much you've heard about peepers in the last week (the ones in my pond started singing on Friday and it was my big news at the market😅), but I'm back with just a wee bit more. Within the last week, I've heard two peeper-related adages, one from Ontario and another from Nova Scotia. From Ontario: you will hear the peepers three times before they stay. From Nova Scotia: once the peepers start to sing there will be three more snows. I adore old sayings about weather and I particularly adore when they are from different areas of the country and overlap like this. :) The snow this morning was a bit of a surprise, and we may see more, but probably only twice. :) If anyone knows other sayings that reference peepers, I'd love to hear them. Don't worry, I won't go on about peepers more this year, that's it for 2026. 😁

Hello Friends,

I couldn't resist ditching bookkeeping and slipping outside for a half hour yesterday evening to plant some garlic (I've had success planting garlic in spring, so long as it gets in early, and the raccoons don't think the cloves are treats I've taken care to hide😅). What a thing to have hands in the dirt again! 💚

Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Seeded sourdough (sesame, sunflower, flax and fennel seeds) - $9.75
Jalapeño-Cheddar sourdough (with locally grown jalapeños) - $11.50

Hello Friends!

The times are grey outside but I'm feeling rather cheery as I prep for this week's bake. Crunchy pastel Mini Eggs, the bright scent of citrus, a thimbleful of Amaretto that somehow winds up in my coffee cup... ;) Spring is springing in here, if not outside. And those forsythia sprigs cut last week? Their buds are getting plumper and greener by the day. Crossing my fingers they are in bloom by the weekend. :) I hope that however you celebrate this holiday it brings a whiff of hope for warmer and better days.

On the bake list this week:

Bread:
Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Sesame-Miso sourdough - $9.75
Carrot Cake sourdough - very much a bread, but with the goodness that makes carrot cake something special: raisins, toasted pecans, shredded carrot, and a bit of sweetness & spice - $10.75
Dark Rye-Lemon-Poppy Seed sourdough - the brightness of lemon zest, juice, and candied peel are a perfect foil to the natural earthiness of rye and poppy seeds. Between Rustic and Seeded Rye in heaviness - $10.75.
Multigrain sandwich bread - $8.75

Sweets:
Rhubarb-Ginger scones - 4/$9.25
Mini Egg cookies - chock full of Mini Eggs and homemade toffee bits - 8/$7.75
Amaretti - almond cookies with a crispy exterior and soft marzipan-like interior, flavoured with citrus zest, amaretto, and orange blossom. - 6/$7.25
Orange-Cinnamon buns (a festive take on the cardamom bun) - 1/$4.50 or box of 4/$18
Maple-Pumpkin-Flax granola sm/$7.50 LG/$16

If you'd like to make an order for delivery to Crooked Creek Convenience, dm or email what you want, tally up the amount (your math is trusted :) ), and send an e-transfer to [email protected]. Hello Friends,

Happy Wednesday! Today is a great day for cutting some forsythia sprigs to force early blooms...which I plan to do before I continue trying out recipes for Easter. :) Last week I trialed a Dark Rye-Lemon-Poppyseed sourdough...I loved it with butter, and with butter and honey, and swooned over it yesterday morning when I made the last few slices into french toast. It's what I'd consider a perfect Easter morning brunch item. The list will be posted on Monday next week and, as quantities will be limited for certain items, I encourage you to check it out and put your order in early if you'd like to make one. ;)

On this week's bake list:

Bread:
Rustic sourdough - $8.75
Sprouted Wheatberry sourdough - $9.75
Seeded Rye sourdough (dense Scandinavian-style rye bread, aromatic with cumin, caraway, and mustard seeds) - $9.75
Honey-Oat sandwich bread - $8.75

Sweets:
Blackberry-Blueberry-Almond scones - 4/$9.25
Brown Butter-Walnut-Chocolate Chip cookies - 8/$7.50
