Taste Test Tuesday

I am not very good at posting these on Tuedays… but FB never shows things in order anyway.

For St. Paddy’s day this year I decided to make a Mint Chip Ice Cream cookie.

It turned out better than I thought it would. It had a good cookie texture. The peppermint created a cool flavour that made your mouth think of ice cream yet not over powering.

Would definitely consider making these again… though I have to find a bigger tasting audience… my pool is starting to expect things 😉

Taste Test Tuesday

Apple Butter Snickerdoodles

So going back to the gifted bag of apples in my freezer… one last recipe the Apple Butter Snickerdoodle

Over the years I have played around with different flavours of Snickerdoodles… usually around Christmas. We have had the regular Snickerdoodle, my go to Browned butter Carmel Snickerdoodle, last year I tried a Pumpkin Skickerdoodle… so trying to incorporate apple just seemed like a good idea.

They came out very soft and flavourful… maybe a little sweet with the addition of the icing but it made for a very nice cookie that seems to be holding up well in the freezer.

I have been instructed to put the Browned butter Carmel Snickerdoodle (BBCS) back on the Christmas menu… but next apple season I can see these making a return appearance

Taste Test Tuesday

Mexican Flan

Last year we spent a week in Bucerias Mexico in a fantastic villa.

This villa came with the most amazing house staff a group looking for easy and relaxingg could every ask for…

Denise, the cook, made it almost impossible to want to go anywhere else to eat. Her food was absolutely delicious.

We asked her for an afternoon cooking lesson and she was gracious enough to teach us how to make this Mexican Flan recipe ….

For Dillon’s birthday this year I decided I would finally get a chance to make it myself.

For a first time, I think it was a success (I did add an Apple Compote for a little something extra)… a definite must do again soon

Taste Test Tuesday

I had a big bag of apples in my freezer from last season and finally decided I needed to do something with them. As things have been going lately Cookies came to mind.
This one was an Apple Crisp Cookie…
I think it needed a bit more Apple because when you got a cookie with a good bite of the homemade Apple compote they were fantastic… without it they were just good.
I think they would make great ice cream sandwich cookies… maybe next year when I am gifted another bag of apples.

Taste Test Tuesday

Might have finally cracked the code to making a good Cinnamon Bun!!!

I was sent a “better than Cinnabon” recipe forever ago and had it pinned in my list of things to try. Finally got around to it this weekend… and with the exception that they needed at least double the cinnamon they were really good. Had a nice fluffy dough. A gooy Carmel-ish sauce.

Maybe I won’t say Cinnamon Bun’s are my constant baking fail anymore… just needed to fine the right recipe for me.

Now to do something about the puff wheat cake…

Christmas baking is now officially wrapped. Bavarian Pretzels was the last item to check off the list.
