I've had a lot of stressed out people around me lately. Some of my staff are in the final crunch of their school year, and getting everything "done" is wearing on them. Other friends are stressed about finances, business, food prices, gas prices, racism, relationships.....it goes on and on. The world is a messed up place, unfortunately. It's hard to absorb it all and not feel aches and pains.
However, we can release that stress in small ways if we feel those aches and pains.
When I was teaching, my students would be super stressed before their final practical exam. They knew what they had to do, but the time limits intimidated them and I could tell by the looks on their faces that they needed some release before they started.
So I would look at them and tell them to raise their hands in the air! Then touch their toes! Then raise their hands in the air! Then touch their toes again! Then raise their hands in the air! (They thought I was insane at this point...) And then I told them to jump up and down and shake their hands like Kermit the frog. This made them start laughing. But it also helped them release a bit of their stress and refocus. Then we would start the exam.
Doing silly things like letting your body loosely swing helps to reset your nervous system and allows you to refocus. Try it. You'll be amazed.
