Pan de mu**to, or bread of the dead, is a traditional Mexican bread baked to celebrate Día de los Mu**tos. This sweet, fluffy bread is more than just a treat, it’s a symbol of love and remembrance.
The round shape of the bread represents the cycle of life and death. The crisscrossed “bones” on top symbolize the deceased, while the small ball in the center represents the skull or the heart. Traditionally flavored with orange blossom water and anise, the aroma itself carries a sense of memory and devotion.
Every family and region in Mexico has its own version, but the meaning is always the same: to gather, remember, and keep loved ones close through food, love, and tradition 🕯️💀🌼
