We were honoured to welcome such special visitors to to showcase the incredible work happening through our DementiAbility Methods journey and expanded emotion-based model of care made possible through the Improving Dementia Care Funding.

From meaningful engagement opportunities and environmental enhancements to staff education and family involvement, it was a wonderful opportunity to highlight how person-centred care continues to evolve within our Home.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this journey and continues to help create a place where residents can live with purpose, connection, and dignity every day.

H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is one of 17 long-term care homes in Ontario to participate in the Improving Dementia Care Program (IDCP) supported by the Government of Ontario.

The funding, announced in January 2026, is allowing the long-term care homes to implement emotion-based models of care. The aim is to enhance the well-being of long-term care home residents with dementia through care that prioritizes their interests and experiences, fosters relationships, and emphasizes dignity and respect.
